    Protein shake advice

My daughter (15) isn't getting enough protein. I'm trying to find a protein powder that she will actually drink? She is a picky child. I've been real proud of her sticking to her workouts and riding her mountain bike about 10 miles a day. She just won't cook and I'm too busy to babysit a 15 year old so I'm compromising. Does anyone know a good whey protein that doesn't taste chalky?

How much is she getting would you say?

What's does her diet look like, on average?

Try Dymatize Elite Gourmet Protein Cookies and Cream. This stuff tastes awesome and if you get it from Bodybuilding.com you can get it pretty cheap. I've been using it for years and love it.

What kind of protein has she been using that is so bad? I really like the Gaspari myofusion or optimum nutrition gold standard is great.. I also like musclepharm combat powder! As far as flavor I'd say stay away from anything fruity! Stick to vanilla or chocolate.

Lets not talk about her current diet. It's not pretty. She doesn't eat a lot of sweets thought. Her weakness is salty foods like chips. She loves chicken, and steak but hates fish. I have some Pro Performance (GNC) in vanilla that I've doctor up with fruits a hundred ways. She hated all but one. I put strawberry quick in that one. Hardly healthy but hey it had protein in it. Lol!

I have never been impressed with GNC or with Optimum Nutrition. Never thought they mixed well at all and didn't have the taste I wanted.

New one that I totally love for mixability and taste is Isofast Whey Milkshake (chocolate) I do not love the price but it is pretty darn good.

I admit i "HATE" the taste of protien shakes. But a buddy recently introduced me to Champion Performance pure whey vanilla ice cream and I swear it tastes toooooo good to be a protien shake. I'm hooked. I just bought the chocolate brownie flavor but it's a bit too chocolaty for me but still hard to believe it's a protein shake. I'd stick to the vanilla ice cream. It's perfect and great quality.

My girl and I couldn't stand the cookies and cream. I use the chocolate peanut butter and Swiss chocolate while my girl likes the French vanilla mixed with mixed berries and almond butter. If you like coffee, Cappuccino Rush taste awesome.

If she eats chicken and steak why are you concerned at her protein intake?

Let me explain what happens a lot. We usually work out after she does her homework. We ride the bikes to the gym. Workout usually Mentzer style short and sweet. Them ride another 45 minutes or so around town. When we get home were both too tired to cook. She's also likes to wait till the last minute to get up for school in the morning. And if I don't catch her she will skip breakfast. But if I can find a shake she'll drink I think it will help.

When she skips breakfast I can always tell because she will come home from school and eat everything in the house. She won't eat school lunch. She claims prisoners in English dungeons ate better.

Well, if you are looking for something that will last for several hours then you should consider a blend of whey and micellar casein (maybe egg too) or even just casein alone. Although casein does tend be overly thick and often chalky when it is on its own.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm going to have to buy a few of those small packets and let her try a few. I am leaning toward vanilla just because you can add other flavors easily. I add fruit to most of mine.

If you want her to have more protein shakes but she's super fussy then take her to a supplement store and ask if they'll get a few samples out for her so that way she is choosing and not just being given another shake from dad

She is actually correct (smart kid). Prior to the 20th century, lobsters were seen as dirty bottom feeders (rats of the sea) and fed to prisoners and mental patients in England several times per week. Laws were actually passed to limit how often they could be fed lobster, as it was seen as inhumane to feed them sea-rat too often. lol

Anyway, you're the parent and must lead by example. If you clean up your diet and stop buying chips and other processed food, she'll have no choice but to follow suit.
Unless she's buying the groceries, she's eating what you give her, right?
Do what most of us do and cook up enough healthy, clean food for 3-7 days ahead of time. I make a huge pot of Quinoa/brown rice once a week, and bake a bunch of salmon fillets/chicken breasts and a smaller pot of greens twice weekly. When I need to eat, I just weigh out a serving of each and microwave it.
You and your daughter can do the same, no matter how busy you are.

And what is her protein intake actually like? Because 15 year old girls don't really need a lot of protein.

Her mother buys the junk. We fight with her constantly. I love that woman but she eats like sh**! We are going to start planning out our meals and pre cooking. I wish that girl would eat fish. I spear fish almost everyday so fresh fish is no problem. How much protein do u think she needs at 15? She's pretty hard core with her weight training. I actually have to tell her to chill on the weights a lot. It's kinda funny because she actually hates cardio but loves the weights.

    Bulk Whey Protein Isolate.

I kid you not, 2 scoops of that in 12oz skim milk has the taste and consistency of a McD's milkshake but almost no fat and 62g protein. Inexpensive and the 5lb container will last a normal person for about 2 months. Shipping is often included too.

I agree with the dymatize. Choco / peanut butter and the cookies and cream. Love both

Protein powders come in different types. This a few popular types are usually whey, soy, in addition to casein healthy proteins. It improve your own carbohydrate absorption. Of course, protein is critical, however carbohydrates are just since important as soon as wanting to add size imo.

    ^ What's an "unhealthy" protein?
