Any one else in here work the grave yard shift.
I'm working 11:00-7:00 and after reading the post about sleep and health has me thinking.
I'm constantly fighting my body to stay asleep. And have been feeling drained lately. My schedule is.
I leave for work at 10:00 to be at work for 11:00 out at 7:00 home and in bed at 8:00 am and I can't seem to sleep past 1:30 / 2:00. So I get about 5 1/2 or 6 hours. I have black out material on my windows and all sources of light blacked out even the little green and red ones on the stereo . If I take a sleep aid I can get seven hours of sleep but wake feeling like complete garbage.
Then on my days of I'm back to sleeping at night. I'm constantly off. Any one else on the grave yard shift having better luck?

I run a club, we close at 5am so its around 7 when i get home. I only sleep until noon or 1. For me thats enough, and last week i eas reading about sleep time. Saying people who sleep less thrn 8 hours live longer. That 8 is to much.

A lot of it is from the potential adverse effects of sleep less than 8 hours, which many people get, some do not.

For example, as a result of 4-5hours sleep consistently over a period of time, or if you're unable to get in REM sleep for any extended period of time, high BP can occur, and hormone/insulin levels can become difficult for your body to regulate and can leave you at risk for heart disease or stroke.

This is important for athletes as well - not to mention sleep is when your body repairs muscle tissue, so the less you get, the less time your body has to heal, and the less your muscles will grow, or repair.

How long have you been working the late shift? Is this something you may get used to soon? If not, can you see your doc about a different sleep aid, perhaps?

Try to stay up when you get off work don't go right to sleep. I have worked night shift for three years and that's the only way I get eight hrs. Melatonin will help aid in sleep to and won't have you feeling like shit we'll at least not for me.

Melatonan can help you with your sleep issues. Take 5 MG before bed, should help regulate your sleep cycle.

I had the same problems when I worked that shift.I hated it then I drove truck over the road.I learned real quick.Just how lil sleep the human body can get by with.

try melatonin. you find it everywhere... walmart, target. it is to help regulate and improve your sleep cycle. a simple amino acid.

Changed my GH from morning fasted cardio to before bed. Drank a glass of red wine last night before bed (not much of a drunker) and had taken 5mg of melatonin 45 mins before (melatonin never worked for me before).

Best damn sleep in 6 days! Finally!!!!!!!

Glass of wine sounds good right now. even though I don't love wine.. glass of whiskey sounds good too. I have a lot of it but never touch it.. or rarely touch it.

With all the liquor in the house, I'm sure most people think we are alcoholics. I can't drink too much because it causes GERD unfortunately for me. HAW drinks like a damn fish but it only takes 2 glasses of wine and she's slurring like she's had a stroke, lol. She's the wine drinker in the house. I prefer Jonny Walker Blue or Crystal Head the few times I drink.

I put together a "Wine Wall" for the HAW and bought her a wine fridge for Valentine's Day last year that holds 187 bottles. I swear she empties the fridge faster than I can fill it!!!!!!

That's very nice MI.. My HAW doesn't like alcohol, but likes to get drunk, so she drinks either Malibu/Pineapple or Bloody Marys. I make them 'special' for her and she's spinning by drink #2 as well.. little lightweight HAWs

Lol.....must be a HAW thing. Yes sir, she drinks like she's a 300lb male but at 110lbs it doesn't take much. Many times I had to carry the lush to bed because she couldn't stand up. Lmao.

How do you like your Whirlpool refrigerator? We just got a 29.8 Cu Ft gold series. Thing is huge.
