finasteride any good??

ok guys when im on cycle my hair loss is just mad if im honest mostly at the top near my hair line so was thinking about getting some finasteride but is it really any good? or should i just shave my hair off and look like a prat haha also dont want no were to get it etc but a rough price range would help as i have no clue how much it should cost any advice greatful (ooo and the detection time of it i cannot find it any place on the internet?)
