Thread: Intermittent Fasting?

    Intermittent Fasting?

Hey guys, I was hoping to get some advice from some of the more experienced people on this thread.
I'm 6'1, 18 years old, and weighing in at about 200 pounds rn. Rough bodyfat estimate is at about 15%. My problem is that im going to be fasting for a month soon from about 6AM to 8PM. All i've ever done is bulk and i figured that if im not eating all day anyways, would it be a good idea to finally start a cut? (Im also excited to be able to see my abs lol) I started bulking when I was 16 and weighed 150 pounds.

I was thinking about Intermittent fasting because I have school and work all day and planning 6 small meals throughout the day for me is just unrealistic. I currently consume about 4000 calories a day and gain about 3 pounds a month. I'm thinking about cutting my calories down to 2500, but once again i have never attempted a cut and am not sure if this is too drastic of a drop. My TDEE is at about 3000 calories a day. My main goal is obviously to shed BF%.

Am I going about this wrong? Will my body being in a fasted state lead me to burn muscle instead of fat?
Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Welcome!

I intermittent fast a lot. The method I use is a 16 hour fast followed by an 8 hour feeding window. Your body will fight you for about a week but once your hormones level out, the hunger pangs go away. Do yourself a favor and check out leangains dot com, it is pretty much the protocol I follow.

    Thank you for your response.

I have a few follow up questions.

Do you eat clean when you eat your meals? And how fast were you trimming body fat% when you were IF?

Everyone is different and will burn fat at a different rate. I did it slowly and was not strict as I needed to be. I attempted to eat clean and did for the most part. I can't recall how fast it went off but fast is not always good, as SlimmerMe says, slow and steady wins this race!

I have experimented with intermittent fasting on myself and my clients and do like it for most part. More so for males then females thou. I also do use this method on occasion as means to build in cheat days/meals into the plan to allow people to enjoy life especially through the summer while still being 8% or less...in my opinion the fasting has to be for more then 16 hours to create a marked benefit.

Why more than 16 hours for a benefit?

I love IF. Im a shift worker and my diet has always far from where I wanted it to be. With IF, I stay were I want to be and dont have to be so anal about what I eat. Works for me anyway.
