Gels are probably the worst replacement therapy the market has currently to offer. The makers claim the skin function as a depot for "steady release" of the molecule is utter BS imo. Some men actually absorb it so fast it clears the system like it's test suspension (and it is, really) and some can even bathe in it and not get enough through. Docs like to think of it a milder alternative to injections but this can't be further from the truth, due to higher conversion to DHT/E2 comparing to any esterified T available out there, and rather unsteady blood levels. It's outrageously expensive too.
