Very touching. I have held the hands of some folks as they drew their lasts breaths and this is reminiscent. Its plain to see the feelings are there. Amazing how humans aren't the only creatures that experience deep emotion.

not to answer for marcus but in my own experience I think they do...I had a blind cat that I rescued years ago that crawled into mine and my wifes bed and died in between our two pillows under the covers...he had rarely been on or seen the bed but I believe he knew he was going to die and that's where he wanted to be...I went to bed early that night and found him...my heart broke because it was my daughters "baby" and I had to tell her...but yea I think they know...

I agree in certain instances. I believe there are special and mentally/emotionally exceptional animals.
I worked on an enormous farm as a herd manager and oversaw thousands of head of cattle. In herding them they would all stay away if possible, from the person herding them. All these cattle were born and raised on this farm in identical circumstances.
One day I was herding them and a cow walked up to me and tried to pet me. Thats the only way I can describe it. This cow would not walk with the others. She would walk behind me while I drove 300-500 head down an alley. I would pet her and she would literally look at me in the face and eyes. It was like she was trying to tell me something. It never eased to amaze me that if I got behind her and tried to move her forward she would stop. She insisted that she was not a cow and was in fact herding cattle with me. I could literally take one side of the herd and she would aid in driving the other.
I have seen that kind of behavior a couple of times in cattle and also some extremely developed emotions in dogs that I can't explain. I witnessed a dog go lay down to die in a place she never laid but it was a small cozy area. I always figured she knew. She was a very exceptionally smart dog as well. You could yell out a cows ear tag number and she would heel it (memorization).
I don't think we are more emotionally developed than some of these animals.

I had a 13 year old lab wonder off a few months ago. I live out in the middle of nowhere, and she has never left yard in them 13 years. I have no daubt she went to die in the woods somewhere. She had 13 tumors, that I knew of, and was going downhill

I agree...when I had to put my dog down a few years back I took the day off to spend with him even though he couldn't walk anymore...I sat on the floor with him and talked to him crying the whole time and I could see in his eyes that he knew what was happening and was ready...I waited for my wife to come home so she could be there and had to carry my dog to the car and into the clinic...the nurse told me to lay him on the scale for whatever reason I'm not sure...after he was weighed a few minutes later the room where we where to bring him to have him euthanized door opened...just then my dog stood up on his own and walked into the room by himself about 20 feet away which was crazy because he hadn't walked in weeks...I said to the doc wait maybe we shouldn't do this and the doc looked at me as I'm crying my eyes out and said "he is ready"...we sat on the floor and held our boy as he took his last breath...saddest day in my life so far...

thanks guys...it hurt pretty bad to re-live the moment buy telling the story again I had to go to the gym and smash back day so I could focus on something else...

Yea, that sucks ghetto, I was dreading the day I had to make that decision. Her hips were going out, and her walking days were short lived. It's almost like she knew and didn't want to put us through that. Here's a pic of her and the wife I posted on here about ten years ago!

Damn man, that did make me cry. I had an incident with my dog last year, I thought I lost her forever. By the grace of god and some really great people my dog is still with me today. It’s funny how a 60lb ball of fur can dig at your heart. I actually spent the whole day with her down at the river letting her swim and play fetch.
