Mids suck! I am on them right now too. I do the same thing as you - workout after work at about 0600. And then I go to sleep at about 1100. But I am about to switch off what I like to call, The Vampire Shift!

Moving on to swings
You need carbs post workout, period. It triggers insulin which will help stop the muscle catabolism post workout. Believe it or not your body likes to break itself down before building back up. The more you can limit the break down part the better off you'll be... more net gains.
Ideally... have a carb/protein rich meal (or MRP type sup) within 45-60 minutes after training... and then a protein/fat meal within an hour or two after that. Then go try and catch some zzzzzz's...
