Happened about a year and a half ago the city was working a major operation that was city wide. Our unit got placed in an area where the drug dealers were getting robbed of thier daily sales money by the "stick up boys" As we are driving down the road I noticed a guy wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and black jeans giving us that "oh shit look" while holding his front pants area with both hands. Now all cops have had training with bad guys and weapons and where and how they walk with them and we immediately stop our unmarked police car. This guy takes off running and I'm chasing him. He runs onto a rowhouse front porch and is kicking the door as I come up on him. As I'm tackling him, I as well as the rest of my unit hears a gunshot and now I'm laying on the front porch with the bad guy. The bad guys eyes are wide open and hes yelling he's sorry and everybody is asking me if I'm shot. After we get him in handcuffs we find that he had a cocked .22 revolver in his front crotch area and when I tackled him, his right hand squeezed the trigger. Thank god the bullet missed me and passed through both of our legs and into the front porch. After that he was found guilty and was identified as being the stick up boy that had just robbed one of the drug dealers and as he said to us "I didn't know how to turn the gun off"

I hopped on a 250cc dirt bike and didn't know how to ride. I crashed into the back of a fire truck. I broke the plateau of my tibia and dislocated my shoulder. It's been 2 years and i'm still walking with a limp. RR

Ground combat in Kosovo back in 99 with the Marines. I was with an anti-tank missile platoon serving as their corpsman, and we had the job of chasing out the serbian tanks. Having bullets and tank rounds come at you is NOT fun and is a life-altering experience. But, to be honest it was an ass kicking, it was like the NFL playing a Pop Warner team. Thankfully no one was hurt bad from the Serbians, the worst injury we had was a moron who dropped a TOW power conditioner on his foot and broke some bones. Still, I am glad I did it, but would never want to do it again.

In jail, I was taking a shower at night and there was one other guy about ten feet away in the corner cleaning up. Im closest to the exit, entrance of the bathroom area. About five hard-hitting mexicans come walking in all casual, walk over to the guy naked in the corner with his back towards them not noticing anything.
They all whip out sharp sticks and start shanking the guy repeatedly like he was a piniata. Thrusts to the neck and back mostly. The guy doesnt even have time to scream or whine. In about five seconds, he is in a fetal position in the shower bleeding.
Im just standing there and glance over without staring too long but just long enough to know what the fuck happened.
All five of them start walking out, look over at me and then as if they just came out of an ice cream parlor, they smile and say "Hey, whats up Bermich!" and proceed to walk out like nothing happened.
Needless to say, that was the quickest shower I ever took
About five minutes later, the guy was slithering across the concrete floor of our dorm trying to make it to the gate for medical. Trail of blood through the entire place.

Diving off the coast of Key West…………..J valve blew at 140’ and couldn’t resurface fast enough to get any air (lungs expanded on the way up but had to keep blowing out)..sucked in water about 20 or thirty feet from the surface……….luck I aimed for the boat while resurfacing so they could fish me out fast and resuscitate me.

A 1000amp service panel (I was an electrician) blew up on me while switching load breakers…………….remember everything going to a lovely color blue………woke up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Stabbed with a broken beer bottle in a bar fight…………well not really stabbed………put my hand up to block what would have been a head shot and caught it right in the wrist and palm…………… ……..I did manage to beat on the guy until I lost so much blood I past out. Didn’t know I was cut bad until I started to get all light headed.

Christ man...thats the scariest thing i've heard for awhile...Do you know why they did that to the guy? And I'm curious, if you don't mind answering, what were you in jail for? I spent 6 months in juvi last year because of counterfeiting money. I printed over 1000 US Dollars and didn't get caught...but my partner however, was a dumbass runnin around the locker room showing it off to EVERYONE. Right then is when I was done with him. He was actually the one who got me into it. About a week after the locker room incident, 2 Secret Service members came knocking on his door, and then on mine. Taking his printer and PC. And my laptop (i didn't own a printer.) He narked everyone out and I think he got probation, but I know he had to pay a big fine. The seniors that were involved got 2-6 years since they were 18. Hes coming back in about 12 weeks...I'm ready to give him the assbeating of his life, mainly for narking everyone out when HES the one getting everyone involved...but i take responsibility for what I did. He still blames everyone else for getting caught.

The scariest thing happend to me while I was in Illinois...the cops in this town, Mt Carmel, LOVE using their shotguns on people. Well, i was walking down the road and they stopped me, slammed me into their car asking where the drugs were. I dont do drugs, and i'm notta source for them or anything like that. And I said i didn't know. Well, they kept threatening me and finally let me go. The next day, they told me to stop and i just kept walking, NOT running. They pulled out their 9mm pistols and started firing at me. I got shot in my left ass cheek, and it hurt like hell. At the hospital they thought i was yet (another) dealer. The doctor gave me the slug and told me to put it on my neckless saying I'd never be shot again. Since then I've been shot 7 other times...:-/. And let me tell ya, gettin shot in the ass is some painful shit.

Also...when I was in tae kwon do, the kid that originally dislocated my shoulder, kicked my friend across the neck after i came back, and parylized him mid-chest down...Justin was much more talented then anyone there and he was only a blue. We were the same rank..the little shit that injured us both was a 3rd degree. At the hospital, the kid came in with my instructor (kid was 13, i was 15, he wasnt strong just hit as hard as he could...no self control. And hes a junior instructor) I snapped on him, i through him down and just started choking him. It took 3 doctors and my instructor giving me a knifehand to my throat to get me off...I've never been so mad at anyone in my entire life. That kid's still teaching..Justin's still parylized, my shoulder still gives me trouble, Russ Hall has problems walking because his knee is messed up, Keeton cant do anything anymore. Justin and me were the only ones really that were a challenge for this kid...And I owe it to everyone there to putta stop to this. You might ask, "why dont they just throw him out?". They cant. When you sign up, in the contract it states that "Any injury dealt to you is YOUR responsibility, and only yours." I think hes trying to hurt people on purpose sometimes...I'm thinking of just letting this go, but everytime i see justin in his chair, or russ having trouble walking, or my shoulder aching or subfluxating i think about how much damage this kid has done to everyone and i just cant let it go knowing i could have stopped all this...

I went up to a scale house in Washington Heights, NYC with a friend of mine so he could buy some coke. We were escorted to an apartment by a guy with a semi-auto gun, walked in and there must have been 7 guys armed to the hilt with automatic weapons. They laid out a huge rail of coke, 1 for me & 1 for my friend and we had to do it so they knew we were on the level. Then we were escorted to our car by the armed doorman. That was some scary shit.
I got held at gunpoint in the 112th street project house in Spanish Harlem trying to buy some angel dust for a stupid puffy coat and $30, that sucked serious ass!
I was on my motorcycle doing about 45 when a Ford F150 landscaping truck didn't see me and made a left right in front of me trailer in tow. No place to go, but I didn't drop it. Just locked the tires, dropped the gears and crashed right into his bumper, not a scratch to me just had to replace the front fender & tire and turn signal.

When I was fifteen I put some dry ice and hot water into a glass bottle and capped it off.. did this 3 times.. but on the third time it didnt blow so I walked over after a bit and picked it up to inspect to see if there was enough dry ice in it and it blew in my face... I lost one eye and almost lost the other.. hit a tear duct in my good eye.. thought I was totally blind for about 20 min until I could open my good eye.

While in LA county during processing, the cram about 800 guys in one gymnasium sized room for about 6 hours. All ethnic types, all gang types. Some dumb black guy about 6,2 190 lbs starts talking shit to a mexican. Next, two mafia looking mexicans walk up on each side of the black guy. The black guy doesnt pay attention since it is so crowded and was focused on the other mexican. All of a sudden, the two mexicans on his two sides throw a punch at his head from both sides with all their weight. They both land on his skull at the same time. Needless to say, they crushed his skull in. The black guy fell limpless like a rag doll. His body lay there for about an hour until the gaurds had the dorm reps drag his body out.

I could go on forever about the shit Ive seen in there, and that isnt even prision. Most of the stories are from minimum security facilities. Chief of police Gates got SO PISSED OFF about all the shankings and deaths during that brief time that he paid us a personal visit.

I also saw a guy get his arm chopped off by an inmate, a guys teeth get shattered on a sink, a guy get stomped to death by 5 white guys, a guy get his head rammed through the jail bars. He lost his ears needless to say his life too.
Police dogs chew up an inmate, cant remember what he lost but he lost some body part from it.
They actually got a gun past securty and on to the facility. That was kinda scary knowing some fool had a gun.
So much more. All this in 4 months.... Food was good though.

While staying at hotel in miami for vaca. i fell off 2nd fl. deck on to a car owned by another guy broke leg and colar bone cut all over by the glass.. the scary part is i went to bed and was woke up the next morning by a diesel state trooper. i didnt even know what i did.. While on the fire crew, there were two guys who didnt get along. One was mental to begin with. The other was the rep for the whites and he kept antagonizing the mental guy. Well, needless to say, you dont antagonize a mental guy while he has a pick axe in his hands.
One joke too many I guess and the guy just flipped out. He swung the axe right at him and it just stuck in his arm. Me and my buddy ran and tackled the mental dude. He didnt even care. He was just happy he got to whack an axe at the guy.

BTW. For all you newbie criminals. Heres a trick for ya.
Steal a credit or ATM card. Get a cheap ass VCR for like 50 bucks. Take the cover off of it.
Now, the film tape that rolls up inside a video tape. This goes inbetween the vcr roller and the reader. You need to be able to slide the credit card between these two. The magnetic strip on the back of the card is the same thing as vcr film. Once you swipe it through, the credit card strip has ALL the info on it. The VCR reads it, displays it to the TV. upside down though because you swipe the card upside down. It has the user name, access code, pin code etc.

Im sure this post will be deleted but it is just one of many things you learn while trying to become a better citizen.

Scariest for me was when my brother tryed to take his life feb 12th and 15th 2002. He took a shit load of sleeping pills on the 12th, they got him to the hospital and released him the day after...!
On the 15th he almost cut his left hand off with a kitchen knife.

Ive had a shit load of bad experiences, when i was in high school i went to Mt. Hood Snowboard camp. It a glacier in Oregon where theres snow on the Mt. all year round.. It was august we werre their for 8 days. Had a roof mounted commercial A/C unit fall thru the roof where I was standing 5 seconds ago...

The scariest for me was watching this old lady choke and burn to death in a seniors residence that was burning and we could not get to her because the hallway floor to her room wasn't there anymore (and there had been a code-red 10 minutes ago to pull all hands out of the building)

Not being able to do anything at all for someone in need is the scariest thing for me.

Towards the end of the war I was actually signed up with the UN in a Firefighting team to go to Sarajevo (not enough local FF's left so UN sent in EMT's and FF's for the local populations) but at the last minute my team got cancelled and the ones there were pulled out as it got too dangerous, snipers decided to shoot at UN FF's and EMT's.
