Thread: Best Type of Cheese?

    Best Type of Cheese?

I am following a low carb diet and would like to hear your opinion on what type of cheese you would choose and why.

1st) Fat-Free- I would love to choose this cheese because of the lack of sat. fat and the fact that it isnt dairy. BUt the downside is that it is highly processed and contains some partially hydrogenated oils so this would be quite unhealthy along with some ingredients that I can't even pronounce.

2nd) Full Fat Cheese- This is an natural food and the processing is not to the extent as its FatFree buddy. BUT, it contains a high level of at. fat and that is also very unhealthy.

Im not real concerned about health, my main concern is the effect this would have on fat burning, dairy bloat (Which I get), and any insulin spike it may cause.

So the question is which would you choose?

    THanks

If you're really concerned with dairy bloat, why not just ditch the cheese altogether? JMO.

Between the 2, I'd always say fullfat cheese. The low-fat and no-fat versions often have carbs added to make up for taste and/or texture that was removed with the fat...so you have to be careful.

I use the fat free stuff all the time...I dunno what fat free cheese you've been looking at, but the kind I have doesn't have any hydrogenated oils, and it's only 2g carbs per serving. I dunno if the processed slices have trans fat, but check out the Kraft shredded version...it's definitely not processed like the slices are.

I can't eat fat free cheese.........h*ll, cheese IS fat, so fat free cheese ain't really cheese!

Besides, it won't melt for crap...........tastes horrid.

I tried using fat free shredded cheese way back. I put it on some tortilla chips and nuked it for some nachos. It looked like someone had melted an orange candle onto the chips. I think that candle would have tasted better too.

Swole- I thought that you did not eat dairy... or is it just milk?

well, fat free cheese is definitely not for everything...certainly not nachos. But it works in omelettes and a few other things. I didn't like it that much at first either, but then it grew on me.

I tried to get it to grow on me but... I just cannot compare the real deal with the fake tasting junk. I guess I would rather go without than the fat free.

Cheese I'll eat even when cutting as a source of fat.
Full fat cheese, has no carbs/sugars......far cry from milk..........

All dairy goes out 3-4 weeks out from a show/pics however.

Are some cheeses better than others? I've noticed that American seems to be lower in fat than cheddar but also lower in protein.

So true. In the case of cheese the carbs ARE sugar, so the fat free cheese you might be just as we off rubbing on your lower abs, because that's where it is going to go anyway. The regular fat cheese has very low carbs/sugar so you are much better off.

This rule applies to all dairy. Stick with high fat, eg, diluted heavy cream is much better than skim milk, etc.
