i drink about 2-3 cups of coffee a day and i was just wondering if adding 1 sweetner per coffee was fine. I dont put any cream or milk in it so the sweetner would be the only thing. Im pretty sure 2-3 sweetners a day wouldnt slow me down would it?

1 sweetener = 1g carb.
Shouldn't be a problem unless you have 20 coffees with 3 sweeteners in each. But then I think you'd have a different problem.
use splenda if possible.....tastes the best
I was at Starbucks the other day and I was adding some Splenda to my coffee and I noticed after looking at the label that dextrose and maltodextrin were the two main ingredients. This stuff can't be sugar/calorie free can it? Mark
Splenda is def the way to go... From what i understand about the stuff, it just goes through your system and gets pissed out, not stored anywhere in your body.
Each packet of Splenda is 0.9 grams of carbs, so basically it's one gram each.Originally Posted by mfenske
It can be listed as 0 due to their pull w/the FDA. I would figure you'd round up, but in this case they let them list it as 0.
So you can see how too many packets per day/sitting/whatever, can actually hinder you a bit on a strict dietary approach.

Thanks Swole, so I have one more question then. Wifey decided that we needed 1500 (Yes 1500!) packets of Sweet-n-low at Sam's club. Any idea how much damage those are gonna do? Mark

Oh yea.... 1500 packets is a lot of Sweet-n-low lol
Why not just buy the splenda box of sugar by the pound or however they sell it? I have seen it there before in a three box pack

What about aspartame (ala diet drinks)? does it raise insulin levels or what?
the whole reason splenda works the way it does . . . it is a chemical isomer of dextrose, I believe the levo isomer. The body has a really tough time using this configuration. With the others, most of them don't raise insulin as far as my medical knowledge goes, however, I have heard that if you use a tone of it, the body will convert them to sugar basically. I don't know if that is true, but it makes sense with the way the body works. But for some reason, why I don't know many diets specifically require you to use saccharin or splenda . . . no aspartame. Maybe someone else here will know
all sweeteners - sweet n low, equal, splenda - are 1g of carbs per packet.
Aspartame is reported to cause increased cravings for carbs and sugar so if you already have these cravings might want to lay off artifical sweetners. I'm diabetic and have a friend that is also diabetic so obviously I watch my blood sugar levels closely. Neither my friend or I have any issues with drinking a few diet sodas, however, I have read reports about aspartame that do talk about increasing insulin levels. Some of the reports I have read say that aspartame can make it difficult for some diabetics to control their diabetes and also that aspartame can cause the aggrevation of some diabetic complications such as catracts. I don't know how much of it would need to be taken to experience these problems, but based on the research I have read aspartame would increase insulin levels to some extent. A can or two of soda though, I wouldnt worry too much about.Originally Posted by KBZ
