not quite the same but my flat-mate is muslim and fasts for 30 days every year. No food or drink from sunrise to sunset. He still trains and diets during that time.
The way he sees it, he does an 8-10 hour fast every night anyway (while he's sleeping) so for these 30 days, he just reverses it. He wakes himself up every 3 hours at night to eat, has a big breakfast at dawn and stays hungry in the day. As soon as it's dark, he has a big meal and an hour later he's in the gym.
talk about dedicated.
