    dextrose question?

    What exactly does dextrose do after a workout and how much is good to take?

    you want a 2:1 dex : Protein ratio. dextrose replenishes muscle glycogen lost durring a hard workout

    ****! 15 minutes is quick! I already take 6 scoops of protein already. I really dont want to take any more. what about just taking the dextrose?

    You need both, dextrose to cause an insulin spike and shuttle the glucose and protein into your muscle cells to begin the recovery process.

    so if i take 2 scoops of designer protein after my work out, how much dextrose should i take?

    double so 4 scoops. although, i do 2 b/c it's so sweet. it may not be optimal ,but i can't stand how sweet it is. with my brown rice afterwards, if figure i get enough glycogen to replenish my muscles.

    4 scoops of dex would be almost 180 grams of carbs WAAAAAAAAAAAY to much

    if you got 2 scoops of whey (44 grams/protein) then you want about 90 grams of Dex. 2 scoops of dex with your whey scooper is about 75 grams. so there ya go

    Actually, you should be having some malto/dextrose combo during your workout as well. That is the optimum way of going about it.

    Surge has the best ratios.

    The insuline spike also is important to halt muscle catabolism as well.

    Whats the difference between dextrose and just say sugar in regards to a insulin spike to shuttle the nutrients to the muscles after a workout

    table sugar is sucrsoe which does nothing to replenish glycogen, PWO you want to replenish glycogen with glucose aka dextrose

    i thought since 2 scoops was 44 grams of protein...then it would also be 44 grams of dextrose. i've never measured, but that what i thought i read on here someplace...maybe i'm mistaken. so, that's where i got hte 4 scoops.....for the 2:1.

    2 to 1 is well known through science and practice to replinish muscle glycogen first, and secondly to have some aminos in the mix for repair. However, the 1st priority pwo is to replinish lost muscle glycogen, as w/out doing that, repair cannot begin.
