. But unless you have heard of someone making the mistake I made, or always use a personal trainer, you or anyone could have just as easily made the same mistake. Prior to bodybuilding, I subscribed to Total Fitness magazine, read numerous Internet articles, and read Arnold's Body Building Encyclopedia -- no where did it address working out after taking a long break.
And I certainly wasn't foolish enough to think that I could lift the same weights as I did before -- depending on the exercise, I chose a weight 10 to 50 Ibs less than normal. I worked in as many sets as I normally do (that was the real mistake), and didn't feel overstressed in the least -- in fact, I felt pretty good, as I did in the past after a nice workout. I knew the juice wasn't going to give me "super powers" or anything, so I didn't try to over do it; again, I undermined my actual potential in spite of my being out of shape.
