Filtering Homebrew

Alright now everyone has tried the whatman filters.... kinda slow and semi sh1tty but whatever right.... now the bottle top filters are a step up from there but I tried them and I went through a whole lot of them... I cracked a bunch and then the filters ripped on a few more and so on and so on... it was a f@cking nightmare guys!!! and I still have a bunch of unfiltered test... well needlessly said I am unhappy with any of the filtering systems that I am aware of... .what is the next step up??? I plan on doing this for the next 30 years or so... so in the long run it is worth the investment to buy something that can actually DO THE DAMN JOB!!!! some kind of pump or machine or what??? I know there is something cuz QV and Denkall sure as hell don't sit down with bottle top filters!!! (they probably don't filter at all!!!) haha.... no really though.... let's get an answer here!

There is a thread buried in the lab forum telling how to make a filter pump.That's the next step and how it's done on a mass production type thing.

I'm not mass producing but I want to do it conveniently without having to waste time... i mean.... this beats paying domestic prices any day! so how about you find that thread bro! haha... (maybe???)

ive filtered with a titan .22 and had no problem except when i tightened it too tight and nothing would flow through and it took me about two syringes and 2 filters to figure out what i was doin wrong.

yeah sounds ok , but my question is how do you get the gear from the flask to the sterial vial without it getting unsterile again..?

anybody ever used these and have experience with em.?

That's something the UG labs don't want you to know.Did you think they work under sterile conditions?Hell no,they put the gear in open vials,then cap and crimp.So UG gear is anything but totally sterile.The BA in the concentration will kill the bugs though.So all is good.

What type/size filters does it take?

i dont know i e-mailed the dude on e-bay about it just a minute ago, when he gets back to me ill let you know..

the thing with the plastic ones are they crack under pressure, when filtering Oils...these are heavy glass, im assuming they wont crack as easily..
it might be possible to use / find another filter ,whichever 1 you would like to use with this, i donno well see when dude gets back to me about it.

I got all my beakers, stir rods, stoppers, and vials off e-bay hella cheap cant beat it.

yeah that method looks pretty good for the homebrewer that is making enough for personal use... I have an interest in a little bit more than that.... I play football and we are all tired of getting ripped off ya see... besides if something like what that guy showed me would work... that is pretty cheap really..

This is the standard method IMO, and works well, but takes alot of time..

Im looking for another method one thats sterile and productive at the same time..

why are we SO concerned with sterility... haven't you read about how strong BA is??? i mean... assuming we filter to remove the majority of microscopic crap in it.... and we suck it up and inject into unsealed vials... it's still pretty fucking clean guys! seriously... what are the chances of getting an infection from this method??? i mean... personally i don't pick my nose and wipe it in my vials so i feel pretty safe... should i not?

now the paper is only .3-.5 so that poses a problem... where can you get better filtering paper at?? if I had .22 then I would be satisfied with this set up...

Too small, you would be there for a week. it would be some clean ass gear though.

have you tried the vacuum filter?

yeah i figured it was too small... and yes I've used the vacuum filters and I was unimpressed.... I kept cracking them! I went through a dozen of them when I only needed 3! and the fliters clogged and yeah.. then they tore... it fucking SUCKED.. I need to look into something new... I sure wish they made BIG whatmans or something... I'm not sure what I'm going to do but I'll keep trying! so if I had .22um paper do you think the system I linked to above would work guys?

Price isn't really that bad when you think about how much it will filter. Only 10$ for every 150ml.

I like those but you could filter much faster and with much more quantity if you used the glass 1000ml flask in the one I wanted to use... I mean.. that glass isn't going to crack like the one in the link... my filters just fell apart guys.. really stressed me out!

alright back to topic... can I use that stupid system I have shown.... anyone have any idea where i could find the correct kind of paper for it?? let's do some brainstorming here and get something going that might actually benefit all of us! bottle top filtering is relatively new for mainstream homebrewing but although it's effective it has it's flaws and it's not exactly cheap persay.. maybe we can revolutionize the whole filtering process! Let's do this ladies..
