Brown Rice came out like mashed potatoes

I cooked some brown rice this morning following the directions on the bag and it came out all mushy, like smashed potatoes. Anybody got any suggestions as to how to avoid that? Also, the carb count said 35 grams for a 1/4 cup, that has to mean a 1/4 cup of dry rice, right? Thanks in advance.

too much water is the only thing I can thing of. Or cheap rice? Did you bring it to a boil then turn the heat down?

yeah, I followed the directions on the bag. It wasn't bad or anything, I threw some scrambled egg whites in it and a little shot of Accent and ate it like it was my last meal. I just want it to come out nice and fluffy next time.

Hopefully you didn't stir it. That will make them mushy...

Well then I guess that's it, I stirred the hell out of it. Didn't know I wasn't supposed to. Thanks for the tip BW.

yeah bro, just because it says to use a certain amount of water doesn't mean it's neccessary. I only use a little more than half of what's recommended and I eat rice everday.
