ask that in the deit section. Depends on your weight i guess.

    I eat about 300 grams a day, and I'm close to 200lbs.

ive actually read an article that says you only need 17 grams of protein yo grow .. yeap you heard me " 17 " but i guess every gram of protein does count .. but at one point i was doin a diet where i wasnt eatin THAT much protein i wouldent go over like 150 grams of protein and i would grow ..

i think it also depends alot of the person ..

also its not too healthy too eat too much protein .. after its digested you get little bits of waste its usually ammonia .. thats why if you notice people with high protein diets always get really yellow under the arm pits and stink really bad .. easy way to get rid of that waste is to take 3 grams of L- arginine daily .

    hope this helps .

    i forgot to add ..

the body is only able to digest about 40 grams of protein every 90 min .

so i think eating crazy abounts like 600 grams a day is a little OD .

I seriously doubt I could grow on 150g/day but to each his own. When I drop below 250 I low musclemass. Althought he bulk of my calories are from Carbs. I also agree 600 is over-doing it.

too much, not to much. sorry pet peeve!
Protein cannot be stored in the body and the excess is eliminated in urine and feces. If you are working out heavy, you should be fine because you are using most of it to build up muscle and the excess is eliminated. If you are older, I would be cautious because too much protein can cause stress on your kidneys. Good luck!

for body building purposes. Most individuals hit 1.5 - 2 lbs PER lb of body weight.

    if your 200 ... 300-400 grams. daily

do you have a link to this info? I am curious, cuz I always heard that if your not working out or not doing much cardio, and you eat too much protein, it gets stored as fat. Ive been looking for more info on it but cant seem to find any...

Excess protein can/will be used and broken down by the body for energy after the carb source is depleted. It's main purpose is rebuilding tissue, not sure about it being stored as fat, possibly if the rest of your diet isn't on track.

  22. #22
IBD, so what if you have say a "perfect" amount or a lil excess of carbs whatcha think is gonna happen to the unused protein? converted?

  23. #23
Either excreted or used for energy, not stored as fat. SC or giantz could probably answer this more accurately.

  24. #24
will await SC's thoughts on this... i cant believe this has never been discussed?!?!?

I'd be willing to bet SC will say stored as fat(to a certain degree).Anything in excess will be stored as fat, secreted ect... reason I say the protien will be stored as fat is,the excess will be convert into glycogen. To much/excessive glycogen gets stored as fat.

yes protein can be stored as fat but not nearly as easily and quickly as carbs or fat. the general rule of thumb for protein is 1 grams per 5 lbs of lean mass is how much you can digest in one sitting. so if you are 180 lbs @ 15% fat = 153 lbs lean mass. 153 divided by 5 times = 31 g protein. that how much you can digest in one sitting.

CFH, right on brotha. I've been wondering that answer for quite some time.

I agree with him as well(and I agree with me too )

Not certain the formula is correct though, but could be a good starting point anyway.

I would believe that if there is an excess flow of aminoacids in the blood most of it would be transformed to glucose. And that eventually will be stored as fat if the energy situation dictates so. The "carb stores" someone mentioned here dont have to be depleted for gluconeogenesis to occur. I am not familiar with details and I certainly dont know what would be optimal in BB purposes but Im pretty sure the more protein u eat the more of it will go to "waste". Its still possible that more of it is absorbed though in the end. I try to eat like 350 g's a day. Excess protein has to my knowledge not shown to be dangerous for people with healthy kidneys. To Omni... yes ammonia does accumulate but when drinking enough u shouldnt have any problems there.. Then that yellowing of armpits? Where do u get that from?

To CFH = where have u gotten the info on that theory? sounds interesting..

Well Im pretty sure Im eating too much but I was just running with an idea and tried it out and see how I would react. I weigh 245 now so I guess its 2.4g protein per lb bodyweight. I think 480-500 is as high as I should go but this is probably temporary. I agree with Pinn's first post. Mainly excess glycogen stored as fat from eating excess carbs (which I also have been doing). Bottom line is I think I'll be cutting back my macros, this was just my initial idea and seeing how I would react. Now that I have officially hijacked the shit out of this threadd..

also..shouldnt this have been in the diet forum??

i have used cyto gainer i put on 10 lb in 4 weeks i also used cell tech...

No kidding, that's what all of us use to get big... Muscle tech products!

Chest, when I eat that high of an ammount of protein I seem to get lethargic and run down feeling, Therefore it seems more efficient when trying to bulk to get most of your calories from a source of carbs.

Obviously, you should comsume your protein in 50g portions periodically throughout the day. Mixing an 8-scoop protein shake and chugging won't help. Protein isn't cheap, so use it wisely.

1.5grams - 2grams per lb of body weight for your protein requirements, the protein is broken down into building blocks known as peptides. Then, it is further broken down and it becomes amino acids. The amino acids are absorbed through the small intestine's lining and enter the blood stream. From here, some of the amino acids build the body's protein stores.

Excess amino acids are converted to fats and sugars and Even excess protein turns to fat. Excess amino acids are excreted, and any protein that it built in excess is stored as body fat.

Is it 1.5-2 grams per lb of total body weight, or per pound of Lean mass weight? I always get that confused.

protein needs are correlated with lean body mass, the more muscle one carries the more protein is needed, bodybuilder would normaly consume 1.5-2grams for each pound of lean body weight
