Save the 1 inche for quads, delts, etc... I wouldn;t chance a 1 inch in the glute unless you're bodyfat is extremely low. Remember, you're not supposed to fully insert the needle either.
You're not supposed to fully insert the needle, thats the first i've heard of that one..so i'd like to learn moreOriginally Posted by MAXIMA5
22g is kinda big these days. Try 23's or even 25g for a better IM experience bro.

i use 1 1/2" 23 guage for the glutes, and 1" 25 g for everything else. i go all the way in too.
just like my ladies, balls deep, always.![]()
They say not to go all the way in, especially when self-injecting in the glutes or other hard-to-reach areas, in case the needle somehow breaks off. If you leave 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch visible and it breaks, you can fish it out.Originally Posted by Pooks
I do this as a precaution even though I don't know anyone this has happened to. I just know how hard it is to hit your own glutes, and I never want to find out what it's like o drive to the ER with a needle burried in my ass cheek.
i dont like the delt or quad site. i prefer the glute. so i guess then i should get som 23g 1.5" and i should be good

well thanx
yeah, go with 23G 1.5". They're readily available and won't be as painful as 22G and will force you to inject slowly.
...exactly....Originally Posted by MAXIMA5
i disagree with not going all the way in.....go all the way in...when injecting in ur glute, its an akward position, ur hand isnt very stable, if your not all the way in, the needle is gonna move back and forth, once you aspirate and start injecting and move back and forth, how do you know your not in a vein?
Go all the way in imo...
I agree that it's nearly impossible to self aspirtate a glute, and having the needle fully inserted would make this easier, but still....think about it... a 1.5 inche needle burried in your ass muscle grinding around while you're bleeding and driving yourself to an extremely uncomfortable ER visit.
I'll take my chances on slight movement, but I like to leave some needle visible. Just my personal preferance.
mine too bro....Originally Posted by MAXIMA5

take a needle for fun and bend it...see what happens...
I think they mean if the base of the needle breaks out of the plastic base. Like I said, I haven't seen it happen first hand, but I'd rather be safe
Sorry to hijack a thread here...but I was forced to get some 23G 1" from the vet as they were out of the 1.5"s. Will this be okay for glute injections? I have a relatively low body fat...I'm not a huge guy either.
Bump! Curious about this myselfSorry to hijack a thread here...but I was forced to get some 23G 1" from the vet as they were out of the 1.5"s. Will this be okay for glute injections? I have a relatively low body fat...I'm not a huge guy either.
In addition, my muscle seemed to get much more irritated when using 1.5"'s. These last couple of injections have been smooth and painless.
Use that hose for drawing your gear then get a 23-25g for injecting... your gonna cause too much scarring with that pin dude...
BTW - the needle will not break off... I have to say after being exposed to a million self-administered injections (me, wife, friends, acquantences - 50k members on AR) I have never heard of someone having a needle break in their ass. Sit it flush on the skin so you don't push it further (after aspirating) and thread a blood vessel while administering the gear...
Slide the skin to the side before inserting the pin - this should help get you closer to the muscle. You should kinda feel it exit the fat and puncture the muscle. Aspirate then administer the shot. Then remove the needle... and then let let go of the skin. The skin should slide back over the injection site and keep it from bleeding on top of helping the 1" get intramuscular via the glutes...Originally Posted by NoFaith068

Okay just injected with the 23 G 1". I tried to pull the skin aside but gave up on this idea as it became very hard to aspirate, hold skin, hold needle, etc. while injecting myself at a very odd angle. Everything seemed to go okay. I could feel the needle penetrate the layer of fat when I got all the way in in. Like I said, this works for me, because i'm a relatively small guy, but i'm not completely sure glute injections with a 1" would go over well for someone with larger glutes and a greater BF %.
in nursing school and all medical classes (anesthesia school) they teach us to insert the needle all the way in. just my .02
That skin pulling method is good to use to keep the gear from spitting back out too - it slides a layer of skin over then site. I always do this to minimize chances of bleeding. You don't have to be too over exagerated on it... just pull with a free hand. And when the pin is in - let go to make sure you aren't forcing it in at an angle. Glutes can be a pain - but Delts, Biceps or Triceps are impossible to do this since you don't have the luxury of the second arm at allOriginally Posted by NoFaith068
