Red face Dont you love people that are smaller and fatter than you that give you workout advic

Ok guys and gals, im at the gym today, its back day, i just got done doing abs and i head on over to the pullup bar...there is a guy in his late 40's, kinda built but chubby, you know the kind of guy that walks aroungd the gym for 4 hours like he has a rash under his arms....
Anyways, i ask if i can work in with him, doing wide-grip pullups...he agrees, i do my set: i do them proper: ie coming all the way up, and all the way back down for a nice stretch, with out swinging my body or using momentum, which is the way i belive in doing them, right guys? Anyways, i get off the bar after my set, and this douche says to me, "you are doing them wrong", he says "the shorter down and up you go the more tension you keep on your muscles, and they will grow bigger". He says "let me show you", and does reps consisting of him pulling up self up literally 2 inches i guess ive been doing them all wrong but to top it off he is kinda pudgey, looks like he was decent in the 80's maybe, and my back is twice the size of his....
Also, ive had fat guys tell me im doing too much cardio while i have been cutting, ..."15 minutes is all i should do to spare muscle" There has to be more stories, ladies and gentlemen please share the stories of the jealous douches that think they know everything at your gym...

great times man.....there is a trainer at my gym and she is quite fat, loves to walk around on her free time telling ppl how to load weights and how to use the equipment and proper form, a couple days ago she told a guy in the gym not to drop the weight stack (wich he might have dropped 4 inches) and he just turned to her and said "eat my ass" haven't seen her for a few days hopefully it cured her

It is funny to pick on these type of people, but remember...there is ALWAYS someone bigger and stronger than you. And maybe, just maybe, ..... like you.... he thought he was right and was just trying to be nice and help. Unlike most of the a$$holes you see at the gym these days who all think they are the next best thing and are to good to help anyone cause they spend too much time walking around with ILS. f*ck i hate people who THINK they know what they are talking about. If i don't know the answer to someone's question or im not 100% sure on whether they are doing something wrong/right , I say nothing.

I am glad i have not had that happen, i would have to smart off to them. At the least i would say, "proof is in the pudding" and walk off.

Just thinking about it is gonna have me on edge today at the gym.

whats cool is, im in the best shape in our gym, so nobody gives me any advice. its a small-town gym, not the best for bodybuilding, but it is right on my door step and has enough stuff to get me by. there is one guy (who is in decent shape), he is a very odd character, doesnt listen to advice or logic from anyone, such as "do not stack weight plates and dumbbells ontop of the cable crossover stack as the cable cannot support over 150kg" or whatever the weight limit is. funny thing is that it snapped on him once when he was doing some lat pulldowns whilst kneeling on the floor (???) and when the cable snapped he was mid rep, pulled the lat bar down that fast that he needed 7 stitches in his head. still, he insists on giving everyone unwanted advice (apart from me thankfully) and being funny with other gym users

My gym is notroious for that.

It's a college gym that employess a lot of exercise majors. They're contasntly telling you that you're doing something wrong.

But I agree. There's nothing like someone smaller/fatter comming up to you to give you advice.

The best remedy: headphones. I find that most people will leave me to my workout if I'm wearing mine.

Hasn't happened to me since my HS days, and that was bad advice from football coaches. I could see myself getting angry if it happened now though.

Its mainly advice at a gym back home with all these fat middle aged men. Saying.."Don't lift heavy, you'll be sorry when you are my age" a minute later I'll be like okay and pick up the 100s

Another thread were we talk about overweighted people in a bad manner, I don't like it! Just because you are bigger doesn't mean you know more, it's maybe because of more juice. I have gotten alot of nice advice from people smaller and fatter than me and I respect their voice as much as anyone else. You guys need to stop talking bad about fat/ugly people, otherwise you will learn the hard way to understand these individuals.

Treat others the way you want to be treated, with love and respect, and even if you don't agree, just let it go and no harm is done.

I hate it when the fatties tell me I'm working out wrong. "You're running too fast" or "You're not supposed to run longer than 20 minutes" I even had one person tell me I had bad form, apparently I was bending my legs too much, and would not burn any callories because of it. I was on a stationary bike. He was atleast 260lbs of fat.

Sounds like he once got some good advice but misunderstood it. Many folks believe that totally relaxing into the bottom of the negative, (well, the top of the negative, in the case of pulldowns, I guess) is counterproductive, since it provides a resting point, and that it is better to maintain tension at the expense of the extremes of the range of motion. Ditto for lockouts. For instance, I don't come all the way up out of a squat, or all the way up to lockout on BP, or all the way dangle-down on dumbbell rows. The stretch you describe feels good, and may help to strengthen attachments, but does not directly contribute to muscular hypertrophy. This guy may have had this idea mis-planted into his head and gave it his own wacko spin. Best thing is to humor these idiots but politely continue to do it your own way, however you do it.

As for the cardio, well, I haven't done ANY in several years. I never did much of it, either. I did consider training for the Crescent City Classic and entering, (a 10k road race here in New Orleans) but decided, "Naaaaah. Screw all that huffing and puffing." There is a wide range in the amount of cardio done by even successful competing BBers. Some hit the bricks for an hour or even more every day with no ill effect, and treadmill if it is raining. Some might do 20 minutes twice a week, some even less. There is no one-size-fits-all here. Do what you like, or do what experimentation and experience have shown works for you.

When a guy politely stands aside and lets you work in, a bit of tolerance is indicated on your part, even if he is an idiot. Now, you know he is one, so you are fore-warned, and you might, next time, for your own sanity, simply wait a bit or change the order of your workout rather than try to work in with this bozo.

Most folks, especially at the ripe old age of 14, DO do "too many" curls. Not much wrong with that... overtraining is still better than NOT training, and hey, some guys just like to do curls! I have generally left folks alone unless they ask me for advice and I have time to give it and am not in a kiss-me-arse mood. They are, after all, in the gym of their own volition, and presumably enjoying themselves. Far be it from me to ruin their fun.

holy sh*t... the love me attitude is alive and well on this site... I guess humility is a lost concept... trust my boys there is more to life than the size of your biceps and to look down your nose at someone else because their's isn't as big as yours is uncool and very juvenial... I like being the biggest in my gym or on the street, it's a head trip BUT compared to some I am small, doesn't mean I want to be snubbed... nor does it mean I have any special class above anyone else... I do this for myself, and never try to look down my nose at anyone...why do that? Everyone doesn't choose the same path, maybe those "fatties" that disgust you give their time volunteering somewhere and doing something real for others...point is you don't know them or know the circumstances of their life... if it makes you feel better, just be glad it isn't your life but reality check... it isn't any better or more special than anyone elses... just smile and be the better person,
    oh and...
    step away from the mirror
