    Exclamation Slight Tear In The Miniscus

    Sup fellas.. I know this would be more appropriate in the Injury forums, but since you can talk about anything in the lounge I figured I would get more responses here. anyway a friend of mine who is a female has a tear in her miniscus.. the doctors said she needs to take an MRI to see if she NEEDS to have surgery.. Im not a guru in the injury dept especially the knee, BUT is there something to help it.. supps such as gluco/chondroitin/msm? Any specific exercises that would help the knee?? thanks for ANY info you guys may have.. much appreciating bros.

    there are a couple things that could possibly help the meniscus, but to what extent depends on how bad the damage is. I tore mine 5 years ago but it wasn't bad enough for them to go in and do surgery because it would result in scar tissue that wouldn't put my knee in any better shape. At the time the best thing i did was easy swimming. The best thing for partial damage is mobilization. Just don't get carried away with it. In order for chondrocytes in the joint to rebuild and stay strong they need stress stimulus. This kinda follows the "don't use it, lose it" theory. Eventually i got chondroiton sulfate msm----really helps if you get a reputable brand too. Oh, and drink tons of water... it adds to lubrication in joint capsules. Last thing is to avoid any lateral flexion of the knee for as long as possible to avoid reinjury.

    i agree, but the truth is the mri will determine how serious it is, if it sint serious the doc will help her with some conservative care and ideas of how to help. tell her to get the MRI asap and than she can see what can be done, until than, nobody knows the better

    A miniscus does not heal without surgery because it is a piece of cartilage. A friend of mine tore his miniscus and began taking HGH w/IGF...It healed, and the doctor took a shit in his pants when he saw the results.

    i just had ACL surgery....along with a torn meniscus.Depending on WHERE on the meniscus the injury is, it may heal more slowly than another area on the meniscus..my tear was removed by the doctor & it WAS NOT visible on any mri....it is very difficult to see that or even an acl tear on an mri..they told me my acl was intact 100% & when they looked in there...it was torn & hanging...they cleaned the rough edge of my meniscus & lots of PT to get the surrounding muscles stronger to allevaite any sideways motion until the remaining meniscus heals.

    Hi there Liftnainez..

    I had a lateral inner meniscus repair on my right knee in December of 2000 and have never looked back on it. Before the orthroscoic surgery, I was always in pain with a constant discomfort so I opted for the surgery and up until now I have done heavy squats and leg presses wihout any pinching pain at all. The best thing is for her is to have an M.R.I like Doc. Sust said.. and get a second opinion with a good ortho doctor.

    I was literally walking after the surgery and could be standing up for a couple of minutes but I decided to take it easy and only walk when it was necessary.
