I currently take 1mg to 1.5mg of xanax every night. Helps me sleep cause I'm an insomniac in the worst way. I took it on my last cycle and didn't think it affected anything and I'n currently 6 weeks into a big cycle right now and haven't noticed any sides.

Im only gonna say this once at 1.5 mg's a night, and a 12 week cycle, you are coming very close to becoming addicited to the stuff , do you take it when you not on a cycle ??

Might want to find out his entire history with insomnia and the scripts hes on BEFORE you accuse someone of being addicted. People are sometimes put on benzodiazepines for severe insomnia. My girlfriend is on a mild anti-psychotic for insomnia and I'll tell you for a fact its the only thing that can put her to sleep. This guy might have the same problem.

Well i'll tell you from personal use benzos are one of the most addictive drugs out there, i dont need a personal history, tell your girlfriend to try to stop taking it and lets see what happens, this is not a mild sleeping pill this is a highly addicitive drug that doctors prescribe way to freely, you girl will have a seziure, and can die from going cold turkey, on a dose as small as .05 in three months of use, ask her to stop taking it and watch how fast she goes into withdrawl, just cause you know one person who use's it dont make quilitified to say sh!t, Im around it all the time, im just tryin to inform people of the dangers of this sh!t, back to the forum..

If you bothered to read my post, I said she's on an anti-psychotic, not a benzo, thats where you assumed. I also stated that ambien does not work to put her to sleep, thats why she is STILL on the anti-psychotic (Seroquel). I also never stated that I was qualified to give medical advice, and if you re-read my post, which I think you neglected to read in the first place, I stated you may want to investigate his actual condition before you presume him to be addicted to anything. Just because you were addicted to xanax, doesn't mean everyone was and that it doesn't have a valid medicinal use. Also, because you feel someone should not be taking it for insomnia doesn't mean they shouldn't. Using Xanax to treat insomnia is an off-the label use that doctors do prescribe the medication for. Are you more qualified than a physician to determine wether someone needs a benzodiazepine for sleep?

All the people with M.D.'s after their names prescribing this drug for insomnia must all be crazy then, right? It's a valid off-the label use. I dont know why you feel its your position to dictate to anyone else what their physician says is right for them.

So, if you'll one more time direct yourself to my first post, where I neither advocated or condoned the use of benzo's as a sleep aid, you'll see I merely wanted a more thorough history of the person before calling someone addicted. Just because you dont think people should take benzo's for sleep, doesnt mean that they shouldn't, and doesnt mean that their doctors are wrong, this is merely your OPINION...

What's up with these scare tactics.? You sound like the guys that give steroids a bad rep on tv.

Yes, it's addictive for some people. It depends a lot on a persons character IMO, and how responsible he/she is.

But to say about dying by going cold turkey is going a bit too far, don't u think?

Remember, if you had a bad experience with this drug, don't beleive everyone is in the same boat as you.

Also note the difference between use & abuse!

Agreed! I have severe insomnia. Before I was prescribed Meds I usually slept 15 hrs a week. I was prescribed an anti-psychotic (seroquel). It worked for a few days but then didn't do shit. I'm going to the Dr. tomorrow and try to get Lunesta or Ambien. Sides from anti-psychotics include weight gain and I don't want that since I'm cutting right now, plus they're high risk for giving diabeties..which I don't want. I take Klonopin (a benzo) for Social anxiety and severe panic attacks. Yes, you can become addicted but it's not the end of the world. I've been hooked on worse and have gotten off with my own will. I don't care about being addicted to the klonopins because it sure beats the shit out of walking around being nervous and paranoid in public when I'm around people and having panic attacks. It's a trade I'll make any day. I can't go in public w/o them. It's only a band aid.

You'll be fine with the xanax.

When i have spare time i go to my old outpatient, for alcohol and substance abuse, and help them out with some of the therapy groups ( give back a little ) And yes people need benzos for panic disorder, and anxity, its a horrible thing, i went through it, some people cant leave their house, or even drive 1/2 a block, they need it, but to sleep, no fvckin way, thats crazy, ambien is great, it could take years before you could get addicted to it, and no disrespect but would you tell somebody to do herion to sleep ?? Well that will also do the job, dont give advise if you dont know what your talking about, do you know you can detox off heroin in 7 days, alcohol, in 5 days, and benzos can take months or even years, there is this thing called PAWS, POST- ACCUTE- WITHDRAWL - SYMPTOM, THIS MEANS IT TAKES YOUR BRAIN RECPTORS A LONG TIME TO STOP LOOKING FOR THE DRUG.( withdrawl )This happens in heroin addicts to..Dont just give advice cause it works for you...I dont walk around the streets tellin people its ok to do steroids.

I'll tell ya what, GH makes me sleep like a log. My gf can't even wake me up. She tried shaking me this morning before leaving but I just rolled over and kept sleeping. GH makes me tired in general. Sleep is great for faster recovery and building as we all know.

I'm not sure but I would suspect a greater and more sustained release of melatonin induced by the GH? Remember GH is produced naturally at higher amounts (compared to a 30+ adult) in our youth until our early-mid 20's for overall growth. I remember sleeping 10-12 hours when I was a teenager. My mom hated it but that's the way God made it.

Man, I went out with my gf last night downtown. I can usually stay out until 5-6AM on the weekend and sleep in the next day. I had to leave at 2AM last night because I was falling asleep in a chair as my gf and her friend (gf) were dancing. I told her that I was going and she could stay because security asked me to not sleep in the chair. She came home with me and it was hard driving home. She couldn't drive cause she was buzzed. I was just tired. Of course I found the engery to reward her for leaving early. Then I rolled over and went out like a log....

Lots of good conversation going on here. I agree with everyone on some aspects. Xanax is addictive after prolonged use, and at high levels over 4 mg per day...It also depends on the person. I've known many to come off after 2 years @ 1mg per day with no problems. Everyone eventually has problems and Xanax works great. I have only been on for 1 month and will be done in a few days...I can say that my stress has gone. I had numbing off the arms and legs with severe dizzy spells like I was having a heart attack....simple solution....Xanax for stress and presto it's gone! As for a sleep aid...I'd have to say it would work but I would find better things for that. Melatonin 3mg...chew in water and swallow will knock you out. I have a hard time going to sleep b4 3 am, but with this it works with 30 min and has been working on me for a year now.

There are no sides or worries whatsoever. I am actually taking valium, which also has it's uses amongst bodybuilders for it's notable ability to suppress cortisol levels.

As long as you don't get addicted, I think your good to go, but I would prefer valium (diazepam) since it has a much longer half life and IMO has less chances in causing dependancy than xanax.

I use it once a week sometimes as a sleeping aid.

I have also used it on a daily basis years ago without developing addiction. I guess it varies from person to person, and also depends on the persons character.

I don't think tramadol is actually an opiate. It mimicks opiate and works on the same receptors but it is not actually an opiate. They came out with tramadol (ultram) as an alternative to opiates and the big selling point was it was not addicting. They were wrong. Tramadol is as addicting if not more than vicodin or any other opiate and the withdrawls mimick benzo wd's and last for months. I've been down that road also. I don't want to sound like anybody who takes any of the meds we have been discussing will get addicted and go through hell. These meds can be used safely short term and should be slowly weaned off when discontinuing. Just be smart and safe.
