    burning scenes from DVDs

Hey all. I have an upcoming conference where it would be VERY useful during my presentation to reference some images and quick clips from a few specific films without having to stop the flow, toss in a DVD and forward to the appropriate 30 second scene. For the images, I've just been screen capturing while the movie is on pause and editing as necessary to get just the picture. For scenes, however, I'm completely lost. Is there an easy way to get small 30-60 second clips off of a dvd and onto a hard drive?

I'm afraid I'm going to have to resort to either buying a VCR and hooking it up so that I can play the dvds on my TV and record them to VHS or playing the dvds on the tv and little propping up a digital video camera on a tripod and recording the dvd the old fashioned way. Hopefully there's an easier way....if so, I'd love to hear it.

I'm not extremely familiar with editing movies on a comp, but I do know that there are programs out there that are made exactly for that. I've only used programs like that with a home video camera and a mac, so I'm not sure what the process is for dvds and such. Hope this helps

yah... you can do it. Involved decrypting the movie and then editing the frames. Unfortunately... it's not so simple to do / explain for a novice and it's probably just easier if you just vhs'd it.

Try DVDShrink. It's a free program you can download that decrypts DVDs. You can also save clips, just takes a little practice learning how to use it. Just do a search for it on yahoo.
