    Converting t4 to t3?

Does the thyroid convert the t4 to t3?

Coz' if it does, taking t4 shouldn't shut down your thyroid?

I'm sure I'm oversimplifying things, but I thought I'd ask anyway...

No, your thyroid only manufactures T4 and T3 using the iodine you eat in your normal food. A number of places in your body convert T4 to T3, with the main place being your liver. T4 taken in high enough doses will shut down your natural T4/T3 production, but it is much more gradual than with T3. Many people take .1mg to .3mg ED and still have a functioning thyroid.
