We learned Quark in school but today, Indesign seems to be the standard today... it's got pretty easy pallets to learn and integrates well with Photoshop and Illustrator...

Didn't someone buy-out Quark? I doubt they just faded... and Adobe had Pagemill back then - which sucked in comparison... but Indesign redeemed them. Abobe taking Macromedia recently was a huge move for them...

BTW style74, Adobe Photoshop is the best photo (and otherwise bitmap) editing software out. It's mandatory to have on your workstation if you work with photography or graphics...

Quark was never owned by Adobe.. adobe finally created its own page maker type program that is comparable...and that is why it is becoming industry standard - replacing quark.

I learned quark in school as well.

My bad - it was Pagemaker not Pagemill... Pagemill was there WYSIWYG editor...

No, I learned Quark back then. I took courses in Computer Design... starting with traditional art and then working into digital format. Then enlisted and then was trained in photojournalism and in the Marines.

BTW - I got that D200... mofo is saweeet... it eats Cannon's for breakfast... seriously, I wake up and it is eating EOS's in a bowl with sugar!

Well that aside hun, what kind of photos are you taking?

    And it's Canon..

j/k Canon is better for nature and longer range photos - but if you just want to take pictures of your family and weddings ..the d200 will do

Canon is still the better Camera IMO

    Very nice flowers

Think about it this way.. when you watch sports on tv and u see the ball up close.. Those are Canon lenses (digitsuper) - it's the the first Company that introduced the triple-digit zoom ratio in the world.

Wow what kind of camera is that warrior, it takes some great photo's. I have a regular sony cybershot 8.1 megapixel for party's and such but i am really digging this whole photograpghy thing and am thinking about investing in a good camera like an slr or something, can you make some suggestions. I would like to use it mostly for outdoor photographs like landscapes and buildings and maybe people and things like that.

Canon and nikon both make good cameras in the SLR category.

    There is no other brand.

Mind you once you make a commitment to a brand you are kinda stuck because the lenses are super expensive.

Warrior perfers Nikon, i prefer Canon.. both brands have there great points. If your going to make the investmen6t, do some research hun.

My girl got me a 7.1 MP Olympus Digi camera w/underwater and movie taking capability, which suite would you both suggest to use for a newbie to photo editing?

Photoshop CS is essentially the same as all the other versions just with more shortcuts, smoother interface and lots of bells & whistles. the main thing that sucks about Creative Suite programs is that they're not backwards compatible with any old adobe software. So once you upgrade to CS, there's no turning back.

As for the dicussion about quark vs. indesign, I've worked for a few design houses that specialized primarily in print design and all of them use both programs. It's really more of the designers personal preference as many schools teach both of those programs in their design curriculum. As long as the program your using can convert files to PDF (which will eventually become the print standard) all publishers and print houses will accept them. But if you know how to use one page layout program, it's easy to pickup other ones quickly. i personally like quark better because i've used it for so long.

if you need any help with photoshop, or any other design software, let me know.

If your brand new and don't really need to do much with it , you might be able to use what ever photo editing program came with the camera

I love Photoshop CS2, it does wonders with my poor photographic skills

    Got a few digicams...

A Pentax Optio 450 (4mp, 5x optical zoom, camera can be put in full manual mode, excellent quality lens)

Pentax Optio S6 (6mp, ultra compact, 3x zoom, good quality lens)

Konica-Minolta G400 (4mp, compact, 3x zoom, average quality lens, VERY FAST camera, poor flash)

And since we're having fun posting nature shots...

Thats a fiddle head fern taken in macro mode with the Optio 450, un-retouched except for resizing with AcdSee to post it here.

Mine is a Nikon D200... it was recently released to replace their D100 digital camera bodies.

I used to shoot with a Nikon F100 but now I see no reason to use film at all... the quality and benefits of digital are killing film these days. I remember the old Kodaks with the Nikon bodies (like their old DCS420's or 460's) that would take a few seconds to capture the image, were hard to handle and flesh would come out looking all pastey... today - the right digital can look better than film and is far more convienient.

I just recommended this line up to my brother in law... in order of cost here is what I would suggest...
    • Nikon D50 ($574)
    • Canon Rebel XT ($686)
    • Nikon D70s ($985)
Here is a comparison chart for you to peep at.

Don't get too carried away with mega pixel counts because all these bodies have high quality CCD's (digital film) regardless of what there total pixel counts are. Actually, the Canon uses a CMOS which is their answer to CCD. In reality - if you want to save a little money - the Canon Rebel or the Nikon D50 will give you plenty of play... the D70s would give you a little more bragging rights with higher end body

The cool thing with the higher end stuff - the more likely you are to find good documentation on how to use everything it is capable of... books or even online pubs...
