Anyone ever read: Protein Power Lifeplan?!

    Hi,

i have read a whole lot on nutrition in general the past years. but this book is by far the most comprehensive and interesting i have read!
It explains in detail the dangers of high insulin levels and insulin resistance and why this is the cause of many modern day diseases.. Honestly this may sound like a cheap advertisment but this book has changed my view on carbs and nutrition alltogether..

I would strongly suggest reading this book if you are intrested in nutriton, diets and so on..

Checked it at Amazon just now, so basically it's a high protein, mod-high fat and low carb??

This is good for the Average person and it would DEFFINATLY help solve alot of problems that our society faces health-wise.

But saying High protein is good for you all the time and high carb is not, is being biased and ignorant here.

Some workouts and lifestyles need high carb diets, which with all that working out will even out things.

I havent read the book, but I think I have an idea what it's about and all I have to say is the following:

-The book is deffinatly a good read for anyone looking to improve their health and lose weight but it shouldnt be applied as a one solution for all problems like some of these authors(like Atkins) wanna do.

it is more based on adequate protein not necessarly "high-protein" - low carb and mod fat-.....that is right. But i eat more protein than "adequate" neverthelss. so for me ist high pro - mod fat - low carb.

Most of their statments are based on man's evoultion from a hunter-gatherer past to present times and the problems which came along with agriculture.

They are not totaly against carbs, but they prefer carbs which have the least impact on blood sugar and therefore insulin release.

It is quite interesting to read, why insulin can cause High Colesterol, High Blood Pressure, Obesity, Typ II Diabetis, cancer and so on..All those diseases were unknow in our palothetic past and developed with the introduction of grainy and starchy foods.

Well in most books someone states a theroy and it is up to you to deciede if this theroy sound valid or not. But with this book they deliver statistic and a lot of studys and first hand expierence to prove their claims. Something you rarley see in the typical diet books of today.

Concerning your statement that some people have higher carb demands than others. I think you are right there. A long distance runner for example might need potentially more carbs to be succsseful than recommended in this book...
I for myself have change my nutrition regimen rather completly and am eating in accordance to the books recommendations but with higher protein of course. And i can say that it only has effected me in a postive way so far.

Well "fully" referenced.. Not every single sentence but there are quite a lot references made. Moreover it gets rather technical sometimes - especially in the insulin department. Something especially you might like i suppose

I read "Protein Power" b4 reading "Protein Power Lifeplan". I feel this is also a very good book. Picked them up both from amazon for approx 15$ i guess. Not bad for almost 900Pages stuffed full of info.. I even took a day of from work to read through all of it - thats how interesting it was and still is!

I read "Protein Power" several years back...it really helped base a foundation for loosing a bulk of my weight (I was obese) for the second time... Its a great book, one that preceded (atleast i think) and is MUCH better than the "atkins" overrated nonsense IMO but I also agree with Iron Freak that is doesnt really take into account carbs for bodybuilders to "bulk up". Its more of a general health book with general concepts but not specific to a bodybuilding lifestyle...yeah, But I loved the book.. one of the best I ever read...

Protein Power Lifeplan is even more focused on the health aspect than dieting. and that is especially what i like about this book. I think most of us know how to loose weight pretty well. But living a lifestyle which keeps u healthy is important, too and that is were my previous nutrition regime lagged, i feel.
