The "700 Club" and Pat Robertson

Clicking through the channels one day, I happened upon The 700 club with Pat Robertson. Wow. That Pat Robertson is one offensive, ignorant dude. I was so fascinated by the whole thing because it represents to me a number of things that bring a bad taste to my mouth. Conservatism, the authoritarean personality, arrogance, status-quo, and self-righteousness, anti-life (on it's terms), and in general, "Red Neckyness."

These are pro bush people all the way and their heads are in the clouds (in that "next life). They repeated the same tired script: a person comes on and says, I was once a non-believer and unhappy. Then I turned to JESUS and my life became grounded in "reality." Or, I like this one. Good hard sales: I was once a greedy biz. man. I had a buisness that was struggling and I was in financial woe. Then I took my money (money that he didn't have) and I started sending it to the 700 club to support God's work. My life turned around and now my biz. is thriving and my marraige is saved. This leads into a segway were Pat Roberts says, "you too can support God's work" send me your money!!!!

If that's what Jesus is all about, I say, HAIL SATAN!!!!

To label all conservatives or religion based on one nutjob isnt smart either. Should I look to the unibomber as the symbol for all environmentalists?

You should reread. That's not what I'm doing at all. What I am saying is that the stuff I see from Pat Robertson and the 700 club in general reminds me of things I don't like, for example, conservatism.....etc....read carefully.

Just to be clear, I don't think Pat Robertson is represenative of all Christians as I don't think the unibomber is representative of all environmentalists.

Yah...alot churches seem to following this belief lately...that belief in god and jesus will make your life more successful, happier, fuller. Fact of the matter the bible never really says that. Matter of fact there are way more stories about people suffering for there faith and being rewarded in death.

If the political, or religious forum were still open, this would be a good thread for it..

however, political bashing, and negative comments about religous leaders are no longer allowed..
