    Oats & whey

Hey, I hear a lot of you talking about how you use "raw" oats with shakes on occasion. Do you guys just take the .5 - 1 cup dry oats and add them to a protein shake using a standard shaker or do you use a blender? Just curious because I may start doing this as a way to get a quick meal in before jumping on the subway in the morning.

I put them in a food processor until they are a powder. Then they'll mix good with a normal hand shaker and it won't be as chunky.

I can usually chug back just about anything, although I did find it a bit difficult to eat salmon out of a can like tuna. I guess the only real way to know is to try it and see. I'll throw .5 cup raw oats with water and a scoop or 2 of whey in a shaker and see how it is. If its that bad/chunky then maybe I'll try powdering them the night before. Either way, thanks for the quick responses. This forum is turning out to be such a great place for information.

I chugged a whey/oat shake on the way to class every morning for like 2 years straight. If you're in a hurry it works...but it can be messy.

Sure thing, use the blender, It doesnt taste very well but its a quick fix. It was my breakfast for a year or so.

dude EASIEST thing to do........go to walmart buy a 15$ coffee grinder. mine grinds 1/2 cup oats at a time into powder as fine as protein. then i add two scoops whey and 1 cup oats to my shake i have two of them a day theyre like 50/50 protein/carbs and 540 or something calories. great replacement for me. if u dont grind them up somehow they will settle to the bottom of ur shakes but thats how i do it then i just put it all in a shaker bottle and take to class.

Haro is right, grind them up...it is worth it. I have tried a hand blender in the past and it doesn't quite get them broken down enough for chugging.
