Statue of limitions of fake id's?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok i am going to try and make a long story short. In 2004 i was the cops came to my dorm looking for fake id machine. They came accross steriods and some pot and some beer (minor at the time). They sent my computer to the F.B.I crime lab in STL. THere was a huge investigation and all that fun stuff, i agreed to talk about the fake id's and how i made them. in return i had to plea gultiy to marjuana and paraphanala. They droped the controlled substance charge and alchol charges and they kinda slide the whole fake id thing under the table. This all took place in Missouri, i now live in Illinios just the other day i recived a phone call from a state investigator about the fake id's and wants me to come to HQ so he can ask me some questions about the fake id's. I hope that kinda sums it up. My question is what is the statue of limitions on this? Can the state bring new charges against me since the id's i was making were IL state id's. Or is he just trying to get me to tell him how i did it so they have a better understanding of how id's can be made? Should i avoid him as long as i can? Should i meet him and get a lawyer to bring with me? I personal think if he wanted to press new charges he would have came and got me.

I have a golden rule for this kind of stuff.

The less you say to LE the better. If your not under arrest I would tell them to F off. Never volunteer yourself to them by going down and talking to them.. If they want you, they will come arrest you.

Just because they say they want you to come down and talk doesn't mean you have to..

i agree completely ^ don't ever talk to them just because they want you to. i don't know how they can bring charges against you, but i've had traffic violations dropped her in illinois, and they've come back with them months later and try to recharge me so they can pressure me into pleading guilty on other shit lol.....but yeh, just don't go, if they call again just give the polite "no i'd rather not talk about it anymore"....make them come get you, then have a lawyer

I don't think the cops in one state can prosecute you for what you did in another state. They'd probably have to send you back.
But the feds can get ya anywhere. Used to be you could run to Mexico or where-ever to escape US law enforcement, but if they really want you, they'll forget all about other country's national sovereignity, and they'll come get ya (picture Japanese police crossing a US border to snatch someone to put in a Tokyo jail)--not cool.

Nevertheless, as we've seen happen with the current occupant of the White House, politicians will sometimes ignore the law if they can get what they want. They'll build illegal jails in Cuba, illegal torture cells in Romania, and think it's ok because the US Constitution doesn't protect US citizens from Romanian torture.
(Ya, Americans voted for the US President who appointed an Attorney General who thought this was actually a good idea--WTF)

So, take the excellent advice of the other posters, and don't talk to any LE without a lawyer. If they read you your rights, take that as a crystal-clear indication to dummy up.

if you did it in another jurisdiction, they can persue you in that jurisdiction. but you aren't obligated to say a word. clam up, until you are forced, then make sure you have an attorney.

Get a lawyer, and keep your mouth shut, I would think there is something like a 5 year statue of limitations depending on the state. Talking to a lawyer on the phone is usually free. Making fake id's can fall under identity theft making it a felony.
