I'm looking to puchase a digital camera. I need something economic that is at least a 5megapixal. I would also like something that isn't going to break very easy. Really, I need the cheapest thing I can find. Any suggestions?

lol. I get this at my job all the time, I want something really good but cheap. They 2 don't go together. There is a reason good ones cost more and the cheap ones are cheap.

Maybe you didn't read my post? You should try doing that from time to time. I said I need something 5megapixel and economic. Today a 5migapixal camera is pretty low end anyway. No mention of wanting anything "good."Originally Posted by gixxerboy1
Thanks for the link carlos, I'll read through some of the reviews. I'm sure it will be helpful.
I'm thinking maybe a Canon PowerShot SD1000? Seems to be getting good reviews and fairly inexpensive. Anyone know anything about cameras?

I did read your post. Maybe you should. You said at least 5 megapixel. So 5 being the minimum. You also said something that isn't going to break very easily. So to a reasonable person something that isn't going to break and is more then 5 mega pixel is something goodOriginally Posted by Dangerdan
Then you said "Really, I need the cheapest thing I can find" So really i think my post was dead on
Thanks for all the insights into camera technology and your recommendations.Originally Posted by gixxerboy1
Easy boys!! It's just a camera discussion. And from the looks of both of your avatars you both have something in common...lol
I bought the Canon SD 1000 about 2 weeks ago. It's kind of ugly to be honest with the black "circle" but it got good reviews so I bought it. I think I got hosed on the price too since I purchased at a local small "mom and pop" store. I like giving them my business so it's worth it. Anyway, haven't taken a picture with it (still in the box), bit when I do I'll post up some of my thoughts.
I was still using an old Kodak digital that has always taken great pics but it was on 3.1 megapixels so the ability to enlarge was pretty limited. And the thing was HUGE!!!! Let us know if you find one, I'm curious now to break mine out and take some pics.
Also, on a side note- I bought a new Samsung SCH i830 two weeks ago. It was pricey but I needed a "geek" phone to keep all of my appts straight since I try and sit in the office as little as possible. I prefer to roam the hospital and chase young, gorgeous nurses (kidding). Anyway, the phone is pretty high speed until you drop it!!! Now it's in 3 pieces and on my desk. Should have bought the insurance!!
Ok, that was way off topic....lol

some of the other models currently available are alot more modern looking
How much did you pay for it?
Problem with alot of those review sites is the main reviewers recieve the product for free and give the products reviews ***ending on whether they are allowed to review them prior to launch, get a free product.. etc.. the list goes on. It's very important to get opinions of consumers and professional reviewers alike. (all this is fact)
After reading through a ton of reviews, I settled on the Canon SD1000. $219 at Samsclub and another $15 for a 2g memory card. Pictures of me in my underwear tying to hit the mandatory poses coming soon. . .
