polycythemia and steroids

my buddy has secondary polycythemia , he was wondering if igf 1 raised your red blood cells like steroids do, of if it would effect his condition in any way

IGF 1 can increase erythropoiesis. I don't know at what doses and the levels but it does make the hematocrit higher.
