    can steriods cause brittle bones??

    He guys

I broke my Fibula on Friday night and I only got my cast off my wrist 3 weeks ago from a broken scaphoid.

I've ran about 4 cycles and a friend was telling me today that steroids can cause you to have brittle bones, I also heard that running test can speed up the healing process....

I was just wondering if any of these were correct or that Im just an unlucky SOB!!

I have only read that it causes bone density increases. However if your taking anti-e's low estrogen can cause mineral leaching from bones. At least it does for post-menapausal women.

Yeah same here, I heard weight bearing exercises increase bone density. And I just pulled this up from wikipedia "In both men and women, testosterone plays a key role in health and well-being as well as in sexual functioning. Examples include enhanced libido, energy, immune function, and protection against osteoporosis. "

    and

Anabolic effects include growth of muscle mass and strength, increased bone density and strength, and stimulation of linear growth and bone maturation

The problem is that estrogen is needed to keep the bone from demineralizing via parathormone activity. This is why post-menopausal women have osteoporosis bigtime. Testosterone does stimulate bone mineralization, but estrogen is needed to some level to prevent an overenthusiastic deminerlaization response. Also, larger muscles subjecting the bones to more compression and lateral forces, coupled with supressed estrogen levels could lead to slight osteoporosis type results.
