    Are all Saturated fats.....

bad? reason i ask is becuase ive heard some good things regarding coconuts and there oils. Ive even found coconut oil and its macros are

    sat fat 14g

with those 14g being a mix of lauric and caprylic and caprlic acid (supposedly good for you)

here is a little more facts on coco oil

    What Coconut Oil Helps With?
    - Reduces risk of arteriosclerosis and related illnesses
    - Helps prevent bacterial, viral, and fungal (including yeast) infections
    - Supports immune system function
    - Helps prevent osteoporosis
    - Helps control diabetes
    - Helps control hypoglycemia
    - Promotes weight loss
    - Know to increase metabolism by 25%
    - Supports healthy metabolic function
    - Provides an immediate source of energy
    - Supplies important nutrients necessary for good health
    - Improves digestion and nutrient absorption
    - Is heat resistant (the healthiest oil for cooking)
    - Helps keep skin soft and smooth
    - Helps prevent premature aging and wrinkling of the skin
    - Helps protect skin and other blemishes

so yea, how come i never hear anyone talk about coco oil in there meals or how to include coco oil in there daily diet? from what ive read, it sounds like an amazing efa!!

but that sat. part is wat confuses me. i know we're supposed to consume mostly poly and mono, so that fact that this is sat., should i auto. think its a bad thing? is the media just making it a big hype? or is it infact that not ALL sat. fats are bad for you>?

if you guys can help me understand this a bit i would greatly appreciate it! i made soe scrambled eggs wth it and omfg !!! it was sooooo good !!! but i just tried it once, i wont keep doing it if it isnt healthy for me, depsite all the articles and research i have read regarding this wonderful healthy oil !!

    thanks guys !!

I've heard coconut oil is good for you.

Definitely better than eating a Big Mac.

I've experimented with virgin coconut oil for the last month and no complaints yet!! In fact, my food tastes less rancid and that must be a good indicator.

I will be having my blood test later this month to see if it influenced my blood lipid profile in any way (amongst other things like getting my test and thyroid levels checked) ... then I can know for sure... I have a few over-weight fad crazy friends waiting for the results because I agreed to be a guinea pig before recommending it to them to spice up their metabolism

Also, try PMing or asking PerfectBeast in one of his threads regarding coconut oil... I believe he's a fan in the stuff... that's where I got my initial info from, his threads

    cheers

Unlike most fatty acids, coconut oil is mainly composed of MCT's, or medium chain fatty acids. The fatty acid chains are typically 8-10 carbons long. MCT's don't require bile for digestion, my guess is because since they are only 8-10 carbons long, there is some polarity, and water is able to bind to the oil.

From what I've studied, coconut oil has a ton of health benefits. I've yet to see coconut oil producing any negative effects on blood lipids. Even though it's primarily saturated fats, is it a solid at room temperature? Nope.

One of my classmates is a big believer in coconut oil, and he's studied it for a couple of years. If you want, I'll talk to him and have him give his expertise on this subject.

Oh boy.. another one of these 'how come i don't hear about [insert food here] in people's diets' threads.

    Dezeroth...

    Sat fats aren't bad.

Studies done on male vegetarians show decreased testosterone levels.

This has been shown to be due to the pronounced drop in saturated fat ingestion.

    So saturated fats = good.

That being said, I've used coconut oil while cutting.

Pretty decent.. Nothing spectacular like all the claims that have been perpetuated about it.

A good fat source, should you choose to use it.

I always supplement extra saturated fats into my PCT. i make room for it in my macros by dropping mainly my protein and my carbs a little to compensate. i know a few other guys who do this, and i haven't had any problems. not a staple to keep them high, but they have their place. good post Nark.
