Alright, so I'm getting a little annoyed with all these people that seems to think the suffering of animals is amusing or sportlike. There is a concept of arrogance around this, specifically the concept of speciesism:

The term is used and considered meaningful chiefly by advocates of extensive animal rights -- that is, those who believe that speciesism, so defined, is ethically incorrect and its consequences morally wrong.

I challenge all you arrogant posters to watch this documentary "Earthlings," it details the INCREDIBLE amount of horrifying suffering animals endure at the hands of sadistic human beings in order to satisfy your insatiable appitite for meat.

This documentary is EXTREMELY graphic so consider yourself warned. I guarantee you will come out a different person with VERY different perspectives on animal cruelty then you had before.

the bottom line is you should have some respect for the animals that you eat, they feel just as much pain as you would and are slaughtered under standards that are beyond horrifying.

This is one of the videos that convinced me to become vegetarian many years ago. (except eating insects)

IMO nothing wrong with eating animals that you've hunted for, but raising animals in a factory farm is immoral.

i think (or hope!) that maybe here in the UK it isnt as severe as we dont allow antibiotics and drugs etc to be used in our meat production, and we can see if the meat is free range, providing the animal with a better quality of life

but still horrific, almost brought me to tears in parts

We take for granted that even though we are still mega guilty of how poultry is produced, i think for pigs, cattle and sheep they have a much better quality of life due to the type of farming and the countryside.

Is halal the same as kosher? Got alot of Halal meat in England.

Don't think it's really the method of slaughter that matters most (a gunshot to the head is pretty quick) but the upbringing of the animals.

the video covers the Kosher buterching as well, a lot of it is against the standards.

yeah, in the documentary they show how its done. i forget what it is the butchers do wrong but the kosher butchering they show is horrifying.

The "bolt" method is the best way, I have seen it done many times and they just go limp. The kosher method has them jerking around shooting blood everywhere

the bolt method is shown in the documentary. it shows a few mistakes that are made where the cows are not killed properly.

i had a really hard time getting through it all. its very much an eye opening film. very hard to stomach.

Really does make ya think where a lot of commercial meat comes from.

Try and look for local small suppliers and enquire on there slaughter methods.

Think how much better for you the meat from a quality raised cow, pig or chicken is ganna be for you.

I'm wondering if this is one of those documentaries that showcases the WORST aspects of it. You mentioned they show the Kosher slaughter moments and how it shows them jerking around dying. But is what they show the exception rather than the rule? Is what they show a 1 in 100,000 case?

In other words, i'm wondering if this documentary would be like the equivalent of a documentary showcasing the worst abuse of steroids and presenting that as what happens to your average responsible steroid user.

i think a lot of what is shown is very common pratice for slaughterhouses. obviously there are exceptions but for the most part i think its a very bad system operating

Its not just the slaughtering...

its the zoos, the circus, hunting, clothing,pets, etc.....

it is all just really sad.

and you get this helpless feeling.

I probably will never look at a chicken sandwich the same ever...


plus it hits close to me because Im on the verge of going into wildlife biology in a couple years. So yeah, animals mean alot to me

Now that I have time to think about it. Most of the video was probably shot in the 50' and 60's Trust me what you saw in the slatering houses does not and can't not happen in todays world. PETA, GREENPEACE, THE NATIONAL VEGIETARIAN SOCITY,AND THE VEGANS. Put the stuff together so you will not eat meat. These peoples # one agenda is to take your right to eat meat away from you. Throwing a dog away has nothing to do with what goes on in a slauter house. Nor does nazi crap orr KKK crap.

PETA ran ads out my way to ban leg hold traps,and they ran graphic comercials of furry little bunnys squealing in leg hole traps. But what the did not tell you if the bill passes you could no longer trap beavers or bait and or run bear with a dog. Now we are being over run by bear and beavers in my state. Oh and the ads they ran were FREE they were public service anoucements.

But I will agree with every one here you don not through a dog away that made me cry. These groups sway you to there side by getting your emotoins then they drive home there bullshit. Oh these are the same people that said global warming is due to all the cow farts the methane gas was doing it.

Yup, honestly, the world's a fvcked up place and always has been. The fact is, we humans can't even care for one another. We can't even treat one another with descency yet, let alone animals. What makes us think we can stop animal cruelty?

Humans have fun torturing, skinning alive, grinding up, hacking limbs off while still alive, and chopping off heads, etc. of other humans let alone defenseless animals.

We have a LOOOONG way to go before we can even think of stopping cruelty to animals.

i dont think it has to do with catching them but more to do with how ur catching them. especially when any animal can get trapped in them. they just want a humane way of catching them.

I had to stop with the Kosher slaughter. I about to gargle throw up as I type. No way I could ever work in a butcher shop, but I will always eat meat and support those who make their living from animals.
