becoming a personal trainer.

ive always liked to work out and it just pisses me off wheni see and hear dumbass personal trainers, so i thought about getting certified, what is the best way? Through a college or online. ive been thinking about getting certifid through an online source like issaonline or apfta(think thats how it is spelled)

I am ACE Cert. and also a former Master of Fitness Trainer through U.S. Army.

Im currently working on My NASM. I recommend starting with something easy like ACE. maybe ISSA. From there id go on to NASM, Its kind of challenging and ive really learned a lot.

As far as "dumb ass" trainers yes, this does happen, think about it. A monkey could pass ACE or something similar, However these trainers also have high turnover rates because they dont know what there doing.

And there in lies the rub with the question "how much can I make" The greatest thing about my job is that im my own boss. Its totally up to me and how much I "hussle"

Its a sales job really. Except you totally belive in the product cause were a differnt breed than avg joe.

Go to college or dont, that dosent matter. What does is how you carry yourself, how much of a people person you are, and that your trully passionate.

pay varies from makin 100/hour to 20/hour .. your asking to vague of a question tho,,

Another Trainer at the club I work at went to a personal training school I think it was called PTI, He even got to go to a seminar in Vegas and hung out at golds with Cutler (hes a spokesperson for them) for a day. Even said when it was just a couple of other guys cutler told them what a "typical" cycle was for him......

Its all about thinking out side the box.

For instance, Im going to start doing a boot camp class twice a week at my apartment complex and there going to reduce my rent to 75.00 a month. So Im not making money but I am profiting. Im also going to charge two other ladies who work in the office to do training out side of the class.

Its shit like that, that makes a diff.

You hear a lot of people hate on this career field because of ignorant trainers. However, its a cut-throat industry. If you aren't any good, you won't make any money, hence the high turnover rate. If you feel confident in your fitness knowledge, get any certification like ACE. A big part of being successful at this is obviously your knowledge and ability to get your client results, but it also has to do with great interpersonal skills and YOUR PHYSIQUE. Your body is basically your billboard. That being said, I wouldn't waste the money or time on getting a Bachelors degree. Also, some gyms (mine) offer a lot of training and continuing education to improve program design, assessments, and sales skills. Those type of things set you up for success.

lol... once you become a personal trainer, you're no longer a trainer and you're now a salesman; something that wasn't in the job description because gym managements care more about how many sessions their clients renew for and how much money they can bring in rather than what your clients' results are. Good luck with that.

i just took the ACE test yesterday.....i thought it was pretty damn easy....no way in hell i could have failed. Don't plan on doing it for a career per se but i know i can train people better than any of the trainers i see at the gym so i'll have a go. And if the gym doesn't hire me here i'm just gonna have my dad set me up an LLC for it

ill start training to become a trainer, ive been working out for 3+ years now. Im not gonna act like i know it all, because...i don't..ive learned a lot through 3 years thats all I can say. To the thread starter.....thats the one of the reasons why i'm becoming a trainer. Ive never been one before but hopefully the experience will be good, and maybe I will like the job. I will be part of an entire new staff because the gym is new (ballys). You get like 2 certifations through ballys, then after that you can get your own ACE and another I think which then you are able to make even more money with, but for now Ill just sitck with the ballys ones.
