    Does it matter what oil?

So I have an 2002 grand Cherokee. With a lot of miles 157,000. Lately I have had to add oil between oil changes. My mechanic did it last time, but does it really matter if I mixed synthetic vs blend etc? Or do I need to find out what kind was put in last time?

Valvoline MaxLife has additives that supposedly help with worn engines.

I'm sure it does matter, I have never taken the time to learn. Probably should one day.

if you have to add oil between changes, mixing the oil is prob not the most serious of your problems.

    how much are you adding?

Ideally, it would be best to keep the same type, but if you are not adding much (say, half a quart) I dont' think it will matter much.

From my understanding, the best thing you can do is nothing.

don't change the type of oil you use, keep running the same kind. Change it ever 3000 to 7000 miles.

I have 230k miles on my truck, using just Penzoil 10w30.

I changed the oil, plugs, cap, wires and ran a flush through a company truck, it broke in a few weeks.

If it's not broken, don't fix it.

As long as the oil you use meets your manufacturers minimum recommendation (which means pretty much any oil you can buy today) I would not be concerned.

If it is leaking or burning, oil choice is probably the least of your worries.

+2 , i love how all these corner store grease monkeys come off as knowing more than the people who built the god damn engine. Go by what the manf says when it comes to type (grade) of oil.
