I am a pharmacist and if by metropro (this might be a non-U.S. brand, are you outside the U.S.) you mean metoprolol...it is fine to take on gear. If you are taking insulin or anything that can drop your blood glucose..stay away from metoprolol or any beta blocker. Beta blockers mask the symptoms of hypoglycemia by not allowing your heart to beat fast (tachycardia) when your body gets hypoglycemic.
The BP is most likely a volume issue...retaining water, and increased red blood cells...you might be better off with a diuretic...hydrochlorothiazide or even an ACE inhibitor with a diuretic...i.e. zestoretic. Limit your sodium intake to 2g a day max!!!
Good luck...i get the same issue...so I usually take 20-40mg of Lasix a day to keep my water retention and blood volume/BP down
