    Red face Motorcycles/Sportbikes.

Hey guys, just wanted to see who all rides here.

Planning on buying a bike soon for getting around cheaply.
(Economic wise) I thought it'd be a great idea, but I'm not
looking for anything powerful, just something to ride to work
and back, and to ride with my brother.

    Well, does anyone ride?

I ride but not a sportbike, 99' heritage softail classic. My fiance rides a nighster and gets very good gas milage with it. All of the sportster models get really good mpg. Alot of members ride sportbikes tho a 600 would be good.

Also do you plan on doing any long runs on it or just around town jaunts?

I'm not really too interested in a 600, just out of my own sake.

I just want something to get me from point A to B, my brother
owns a 600. I plan on purchasing something affordable to say the
least, :/ I can really only afford a 250r (Kawasaki) if I were to get
one, and insurance rates would be lower too.

Plus, only little runs around town. (Back in forth to work, visit family
members, etc) Just little things I guess.

Ohh got you. Maybe look into a used enduro bike? Honestly not real familier with sport bikes so gixxerboy would be a guy to get ahold of.

So the Kawasaki 250r would get great gas mileage?

Just what I was wanting to hear. I'm not looking to
go fast either, especially with assholes hear in Florida who
    drive like idiots.

But just something I can take out and have fun with

I ride a sport bike and if it wasn't for the rain and the kids. I would sell my car and not even own a car. I ride my bike 100% of the time if I'm not working and driving the kids around.

    Not really, lol.

It goes 110 top speed, which is well over the speed limit.

I'm not going to be going over the speed limit any time soon.
Plus, whats the need to go anything over 70-80 anyway? If it
can go over 100 it's fast. Not the fastest bike, but it's good.

Funny, most bikers respect anyone getting a bike. It's not about
going fast, it's about having a good time. Unless your a squid who
goes 160, and thinks your a badass so be it, to each their own.

It varies some bikers are very "clicky" other believe if you enjoy the riding thats all that matters. I ride with guys who ride sports bikes to cruisers, it varies from person to person.

I definitely agree, I just hate when people bash on a bike lol.

Especially when it will accelerate faster than 80% of the vehicles
you'll come across on the road, although the top speed is lower than
    some/most cars it's still fast.

Plus, I'm still young so insurance would be insane on a 600 or higher.

    Lol.

I ride a '05 Kawasaki Ninja ZX10, titanium color. This bike is scary fast. I have gone 173mph on it and it was still pulling. You can't beat the performace for the price. Looks good too.

Sounds nice, I'll look into it. I might get an R6. Although
I've been leaning more towards the 250r. Not worried about
the power, just the pricing and the insurance rate as I'll be
going through the same insurance as the family is. But I'll
look around and shop for one

Like I said, not to interested in 'doing burnouts' I'm only using
it to go place to place. I just need a bike to get around with,
No so much as 'doing burnouts' or 'going fast.' When something
goes well over the speed limit I'll stick with it.

    Oh!

& No, never rode a bike yet.

I know how to! As I grew up around things similar,
but I know it'll be different, but it'll be natural to me
as it was for my brother.

If you are looking for cheap transportation stay away from any of the sport bikes. Insurance will kill you. I ride a Vintage Harley and spend $68.00 a year for liability. My wife rides an 02 Honda Shadow VLX600 and pays $76.00 a year for Liability. Honda was cheap used spent 2,800 on it 2 years ago. Or just get a scooter, probably even cheaper to insure.

    I have a 2008 Busa.And it's not stock.Over 200 mph 3 times.Been riding since I was 7 years old.I'm 44 now.I would stay with a jixxer.The engines are almost impossible to blow.But there all out of Japan.(the top 4 manufactures).And they know how to make sport bikes.Period.

if you be a good rider, guys will make fun of you if you got a "smaller" bike, but if you can ride, you can usually whip those guys on the thousand and up.

If you would have be a good student people would understand you.

Getting a bike out of pure ego is the dumbest thing in the world. Plus its what gets people killed.

not if the guys on the thousand and up are good riders as well.
for the purposes the OP listed, the 250 is plenty.

Yeah, you can't beat the value this bike gives you. I know you can find a used 04 or 05 for $6,000USD in good condition. I got my 2005 in 06 new from the dealer. So I got my 05 for $8,700USD NEW. Considering the R6 cost more than the ZX10 that is crazy because it's not even close to it in performance. The ZX10 will smoke almost every bike in the liter class. I really wanted the black ZX10 but they were all sold out of the 05. I should of got Kawi green. But that is what it's always like after you buy something, you wish you had the other color. The titanium looks awesome at sunset or night. The paint looks liquid at twilight.

I remember one evening on my way home from working late I was on my ZX10. I was heading south on I-5 from Seattle towards 405. I saw a dude come off the on ramp flying ahead of me going 130+ it looked like. So I dropped down into 4th and took off. I flew by him at 170+ and he was going around 140 or so it seemed. We got off at the same exit off 167 and he asked my how fast I was going. I said about 173mph. He said "I was going 150mph and it felt like I was standing still". Then he said "but I see you are on a Ninja ZX10 so that makes sense". He was riding a 07 GSXR 1000.

I love it. Its light and beefy. Canyons are a blast with that bike, easy to throw from side to side that my pegs almost touch the ground.
