    Question liquid diet... why not?

So if you can get all of your macro needs from protein/gainer/carbs powders, throw in some canolia or olive oil for fat, and supplement with multi-vits and whatever else. Why not? Is there a downside I'm missing to not eating real foods.

Please do not answer unless you have a reason or sources to back your answer.

I mean I imagine you would need to get a minimum amount of fiber, so let's say you have a fiber rich cereal once a day... why not?

i imagine... (uneducated guess...) because your body is not designed to work on those foods...
those foods can be designed to try to work with your body.....but stilll dont think that science is there

It's not that liquid is bad, it is not food though. It is supplements. If you had liquid that was completely balanced it would probably work. My training partner did a liquid diet for a couple weeks and his results were terrible (fat and muscle loss).

My question is why would you want to do a liquid diet?

I've done liquid diets. Loads of bodybuilders do it during contest prep (sometimes blending whole foods with, or instead of, powders). Loads of guys do it to give their digestive system a rest.

I've done 'em as a college student and competitive bodybuilder both... without losses in muscle. I'd just get leaner and leaner.

For them to work though, you need to understand what you're doing and why.

Personally I have no issue with 'em.

I just wouldn't suggest doing 'em year round.

the reason I ask is not that I want to go on one... but some days I don't have time to cook/chew and I might end up taking A LOT of protein/carb shakes to make up for it. I was just curious if I am short-changing myself here

Im against the clock also. But I have 2 cooking days to ensure I have my meals ready togo. If I know that theres no way around it Ill make an extra shake and maybe grab a chicken sand from subway. But this is last resort!

If you want it bad enough, youll figure out a way to get those meals in with real food......but a shake is better than nothing.....jmo......

I have a feeling that what nark is talking is not the same as simple whey and oats. there are so many nutrients in real food that whey and oats do not account for.

I think we all have time-crisis' but in BB you have to think ahead. I use to consider drinking 3 weight gainer shakes in my day 3 meals...but like alot of these guys say, they're supplemental. They are not meal replacements! An old wise man (RIP T-mos) once told me he cooked all of his meals on one day for the remainder of the week and just stored them in tupper-ware. Damn genius! It's my staple in making sure I have whole meals while working 10+ hours a day 6 days a week. Why take a gamble with wondering if they're sufficient when you can just be for sure using whole foods. Keep it simple bro.
