kewl thanks!
few things about the GI indices:
-they are based upon a minimum amount of 50g of carbs per sitting; really think about that, b/c as an example, eating 50g carb-wise of cantaloupe is like eating 2-3 lb of it -- you'll never eat that much in one sitting; that's why GL, glycemic load, is also an important comparative figure when determining the effect a given food has on insulin levels; a fruit may have a high GI, but very low GL, so you can enjoy it, diabetics too
-many of the GI lists differ, as some use glucose as the comparison, others use white bread
-the GI lists were tallied using pre-diabetic/borderline diabetic subjects; while you may currently have had a high insulin value on a recent blood test, you may not necessarily fall into the category of pre-diabetic; therefore, you may not be as insulin sensitive as the GI list assumes
-the GI of a food can be minimized with the presence of fat, fiber or protein in combination with the high GI food; as an example, skim milk has a slightly higher GI than full-fat (regular) milk b/c the ratio of fat to carb doesn't favor fat as much as it does with regular milk
-the GI list makes one realize the necessity (beyond our BB goals) of having protein in every meal; b/c of diabetes all over my mom's side of the family, I simply have used it as a guide of which carb-y foods I can get away with eating more or less of, as well as figuring out how to time their consumption better
hope this helps a bit
