Sweet potatoes are perfect at any time except before bed and pre/post wo IMHO. You don't need complex carbs, you need fast carbs. I do 2 scoops whey, 1/2 cup oats, dextrose and raisins/waxy maize pwo. You've got 50 grams protein and 100 grams carb, perfect! A small amount may be ok, though oats would be better, plus you can put them in your shake, be much more convenient than sweet potato!
You need fast carbs after you workout so you get them into your body asap, a small amount of complex carbs (such as the oats, it's only 28 grams carb, metric 1/2 cup) to balance things out.
i ate 2 sw potatoes a day when cutting--one ppwo @ 1pm and one for dinner around 5pm
