I would substitute pseudoephedrine for ephedrine, its much less cardiotoxic. In fact unlike ephedrine, Sudafed has not been show to exhibit any significant cardiotoxicity.

Cardiotoxic is a self-explanitory term. Toxic to your heart. Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) is the entantiomer of ephedrine. In other words, it has the same molecular formula as ephedrine, but it is structered as ephedrine's mirror image

Lactic Acid is another example an entantiomer

No, Sudafed most certainly does not cause drowsiness. You may be confusing it with Benadryl.
