    Suitable replacement for oats?!?!

I've tried repeatedly to eat oats for breakfast. They are disgusting, I can't do it. What would be a suitable replacement. Actually I can eat the instant sugary ones lol but from what i've read so far I might as well be eating cocoa krispies.

On a side note I'm new to the diet forum and I find it extremely overwhelming but the transformations I've seen really drove the importance of diet home for me. Im finding all the calculations and accronyms to be the most difficult to grasp. Any tips that would help me understand all of this info? The videos by Milos(sp) where great though. Ok I'm done rambling.

You find them disgusting, really? Are you trying to eat them plain, or are you mixing anything in there? I eat them with splenda (actually I use Stevia now) and cinnamon, I LOVE them! You can mix a bit of berries in there if you have to for flavor, some people even mix in natural fruit spread (jelly).

What about grits? I doubt you'll like them better, but it's an option. Hard to eat without butter though! =)

It's more the texture than the taste. I've tried with cinnamon raspberry jam brown sugar... I actually do like grits although I've never had them without butter. Hanks for the quick replys guy. What about my second question, any input for me there?

One more thing that MIGHT help with the texture - I sometimes add fat free half and half - it makes them alot more creamy.

Regarding your second question - i'd suggest making a new post and write down specifically what you're having a problem with. Then I and/or others can address each one for you.

K, I know what it means but the actual phrase my excape me.
Macros- is like a brakedown of nutrients like pro-protein/carbs/fat and that is how you list them.
Tdee- is what amount of calories you need at the rate of exertion you put out to stay the same size. Increase to gain size, and decrease to loose. And all that is broken down even further depending on your body type and what your goals are. Short( total daily calorie expenditure? Or sumthin? Like that if you search button this fireguy and a few other have it all wrote down for peeps to copy and figure out. Then post in diet section with macroes and you will be tweeked its awsome theise guys are good! Its BASICLY a starting point to work with. To get to ware you want to be.

Something that I tried the other day that was great was mixing a tablespoon of natty peanut butter into the cooked oats. Of course, you would have to account for the additional cals and fat, but it sure is delicious. I also put blueberries and cinnamon in mine.

Hah, I'm not the only one. I also don't like the way its prepared, with sugar and cinnamon or in shake. To me its a grain and its just weird to eat it that way.

If you want to still eat Oats - search the web for whole oatmeal (not steel cut or cut in any way) and cook it like a rice. Its actually quite good and when cooked, it has a consistency of a cooked rice - with bit of crunch. You could cook it plain or in chicken/beef stock to make it more interesting. With whole oats, you could also mix 50/50 with brown rice.

I think I bought mine at nutsonline.

TDEE = Total Daily Energy Expenditure - this is your maintenance calories. As 6ft said above, you should neither gain nor lose weight if you eat at this level. Eat above TDEE and you will gain weight. Eat below and you will lose weight. The QUALITY of the weight gain/loss (i.e. fat, muscle, etc) will depend on your diet, meal timing, macro breakdown, and training.

I like mixing them (not blending) right into my protein shake - I actually enjoy chewing them up. Stir, chew, stir chew, etc.

I don't mind them raw, it is definitely a texture thing for me. From now on i will just be adding them to my shakes. THanks a bunch.

i eat rice porridge with skim milk on occassion, it's a pretty good substitute, made from brown rice flakes, not quite as nutricious as oats but worth a try??

I'm cutting right now, this is how my breakfast looks:
    1/2 cup of All-Bran cereal
    1/2 Cup Skim Milk
    4 Jumbo Egg Whites
All that mixed up together with a fork, then spread out over a skillet/ pan coated with spray on olive oil. Comes out kind of like a pancake.

All-Bran cereal is lower glaucemic then oatmeal. It sounds rough, but I actually like it better and cant go back to oats now.

You mix raw egg whites into a shake and consume it that way? Is this safe? Or should I call you Rocky?
