Info For Injections

Just wondering what the general consensus is on injections; I've been reading up on it and there are as many opinions as there are assholes. With something like an injection, I want to be sure to get it right.

1. Many people say the best place is the glut. Is this preferable?
2. What volume should you aspirate? (and is it just air or fluid?)
3. If there is blood after aspiration, can the injection be used in a different location, or is it no good at all and should be disposed.

glutes may be a good first option, aspirate till a air bubble is present if you asppirate and get blood change the injection site no need to change the pin or gear, after all its your blood .

1. Glute is a good first choice as there are less nerves and its a big target, hard to get wrong.

2. Just pull it back .5 of a ml and you should see some air bubbles come in, if not blood will flow into it. As MBMETC said no need to change the gear but i recommend changing the needle as it will have blunted on your first attempt.

3. Yeah when it happened to me i changed site, just thought it would be more painful injecting in the same site twice in a row. But you dont have to change site, its up to you.

For information:
When you draw back on the syringe (aspirate) its not air you can see, its a vacuuum, or blood of course.

I usually change the pin.. It gets dull
Ive seen a good pic of a pin under a microscope that was used once

Yeah it pulls itself back in when you let go = vacuum, but its easier telling people to look for air bubbles because that's what it looks like when its in the syringe.

lol yep. if you see "bubbles" then your gtg. no need to push them out either, the plunger will snap back into place. just to make sure there is no blood in there. glute is good bc it's meaty. but i personally don't like anything posterior (tri, lat, glute) only b'c i don't like the feeling of trying to twist, but maybe i'm just lazy.

Yes good point.
We just don't want people thinking that if its possible for a persong to pull air out of themselves, its ok to put air into themselves, if you know what I mean. Unlikely sure, but you never know.
I totally understand your logic of trying to simplify things though and have to admit I agree.

1) Change the needle if there's present in your syringe. No need to change the entire syringe, as it's your blood and it won't hurt you.
2)Just pull back slightly on the syringe is all you need. And i recommend 23gauge, 1.5"..
