    Lentils. yay or nay?

lentils nutrition fact is quite impressive. for 200g of cooked lentils u get about 40g of carbs(18g of fibers) and 20g of protein. Wouldn't that be a good choice for either bulking or cutting? Im trying to find substitutes to oalmeal and brown rice

I just started eating them a few weeks ago and have been enjoying them. They are a good complex fibrous carb and have a decent amount of protein depending on what kind you buy. Answer = Yay.

Definitely Yes! Lentils are an excellent source of good quality, slow burning/digestive protein and has been hailed by [I]health magazine, as one of the five healthiest foods and food sources. You'll want to stay away from the red and pink variety's as they contain only about 10% fiber verses 31% from the brown (soluble and insoluble). I take a tuna fillet some chicken breast and some ground turkey, put it in a crock with my lentils and some green chili's, onions, tomatoes and eat it throughout the week, for a super high protein post workout meal. Now if I'm really getting jiggy with it, I add brown rice to it and eat it ALL the time it just makes for a Great protein/ carb meal!
It has got to be one of the more perfect foods next to rolled oats for the overall health and dietary benefits. With 18 grams of protein a single cup (1) only contains about 220 calories, making this an excellent choice all around, not to mention high amounts of folate, molybdenum, dietary fiber, vitamin B1, copper, iron, phosphorus, potassium and tryptophan ( this is why this is an excellent meal before bed, add some ground turkey and you'll sleep like a baby!)
The list is long as to why this is such a "super food" enjoy.

Be careful if you have any food allergies. Oats lack many of the prolamines found in wheat, such as gluten, however, oats do contain avenin. Avenin is a prolamine that is toxic to the intestinal mucosa of avenin-sensitive individuals, and can trigger a reaction in coeliacs.

Lentil soup is as delicious as it is healthy. Good fats, decent protein.

Isn't a lentil considered a bean? If so I wouldn't use it to replace brown rice and oatmeal completely. Seems like it would be harsh on the digestive system.

It's actually a legume (so are peanuts believe it or not). What you think is harsh on the digestive system is actually GOOD for the digestive system. Not always good for the people around you, lol, but good to clean you out, scrape the intestinal and colon walls, etc.
