Lifted for years...stopped for years...how long to wait before AAS?

I am 35 yoa and I used to lift all the time. I lifted for about 8 or 9 years...got really big and pretty strong naturally then life interfered and the lifting tapered off until I stopped altogether. I stopped for about 5 years and recently (6 weeks ago) started lifting again. I am seeing the wonders of muscle memory as things are starting to come back quite fast. Anyways...I was just wondering...I know the general "rule" is that one should not do AAS until they have a couple years under their weight belt but where would someone like me fall? Am I a newb again or should it be safe to wait a shorter amount of time since I do have a longish background in the weight room?

And to clarify...I am not trying to get the "ok" to start poking next week. I know I need to get a lot of research done, get my diet correct which is rubbish at the moment, and I want to try to max out my muscle memory before taking the next step.

IMO I think you should give your body some time to get used to the new work regime.. Your body may have very good muscle memory but you will run some big risks on creating some serious injuries especially since you havent lifted in 5 year. I think you should get your dieting on point and maybe hop back in the game in a year from now. You said your seeing good result so keep at it!
