Radiation From Japan Pouring Down Over America's East Coast

Radiation has been discovered in the rainwater falling over the east coast cities in America. Government officials are quick to say that there is nothing to worry about. After all they are from your government and would never lie nor decieve the American public. And kindly disregard any falling birds from the skies overhead.

The way I look at it is everything in the state of California is known to cause cancer so a little radiation may do some good

Hopefully they get the plant under control soon. I'm supposed to be moving to Cali in a couple months.

At the risk of being nosey, why would you ever want to leave that wonderful city in which you now reside in? No nevermind I just remembered where you live and I'd move too. lol

I'm not into swimming at the beach much. I hate a sandy sack. I'll chill out on the sand and all but very rarely get in the water.

It seems the average pay is a little higher out there so I'm hoping that balances it out some.

If not, then you will have to go gay for pay to pay those bills out there. Keep your sack clean from sand just in case. lol

so they are getting radiation on the east coast but not the west coast even though its that much closer? I know winds are responsible for the most movement, but seriously... if there is radiation on the east, maybe its something thats always been there and only noticed now as there is more of an alert and it was being covered up before... hmmm, whats the gov't doing on the east side of the country

Wear basketball shorts with no liner/underwear in the ocean. No sand build up at all and you can flash the hot guys your balls while laying on the beach.

Sholva, where did you see this? Have you got a source? I'm doing some research on the pros and cons of Nuclear Energy and something like this would be pretty interesting to discuss.

Even though the discussion is all over the place, the news media reported radiation being found in falling rain on America's EAST COAST, but that the Government was quick to say that it is in infinitesimal amounts and for the public to not be concerned. Other than an occasional glowing in the dark, you will be ok.

It just started raining on the east coast in places which pulled the radiation down to the ground level. Florida has been having some real drought issues lately and it was perfect just timing for the rain to arrive when the radiation plume was passing over.

This makes me wonder if the East Coast is picking this up why has the West Coast not detected any yet since the wind currents flow from west to east. And if they did pick it up on the West Coast, how much greater would the concentration of radiation be there. Someone is dropping the ball and not sounding the alarm on the West Coast IMO. This info came from MSNBC.Com, but is on most news sites.

..There is no current threat to public safety, said spokesman Drew Elliot of Progress Energy, the Raleigh, North Carolina, electric utility serving Florida and the Carolinas.

Monitors at Progress Energy's nuclear plants in Hartsville, South Carolina, and Crystal River, Florida, picked up low levels of radioactive iodine-131. So did Duke Energy's monitors at its two nuclear facilities in South Carolina and the plant in Huntersville, North Carolina.

"If there were radiation coming from one our own sites, we would be seeing other types of radiation than iodine-131," Elliot said. "Other nuclear stations throughout the East Coast all started picking this up within the last week. It all points to something coming from overseas.

"The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency both say it poses no threat to public safety," he said.

The news follows reports that trace amounts of radioactive iodine have also turned up in rainwater samples in Massachusetts, California, Pennsylvania and Washington state.

On Monday, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett said that tests on public drinking water in six facilities around the state found no elevated levels of radioactivity.

.Concentrations of Iodine-131 reported in Pennsylvania's rainwater samples ranged from 40 to 100 picocuries per liter (pCi/L).

Those readings are about 25 times below the level that would be of concern, officials said, adding that rainwater is diluted by water in reservoirs and rivers and is also treated before reaching consumers.

The levels are also below those that could harm livestock or pets, which could consume rainwater directly.

The higher incidence of radioactive iodine is believed to have originated from atmospheric releases from Japan's damaged Fukushima plant, officials said.

But the Pennsylvania samples included those made in the vicinity of nuclear power plants at Three Mile Island and Limerick, where levels were 90 to 100 cPi/L.

Massachusetts officials reported a reading of 79 pCi/L in a sample taken in Boston on March 22.

Monday marks the 32nd anniversary of the start of the Three Mile Island accident, when one of the plant's two reactors suffered a partial meltdown.

Sholva traces of radiation have been found on the west coast in Cali. They say there not toxic levels but that you shouldn't eat any foods from your garden. It's been all over the news I'm not sure how you missed it. Did you forget which way east and west are again? Lol
