Infection and Penicillin help

I pinned my glute on Monday, today I woke up with severe pain in that same glute. The site is not red or really swollen, just hurts.

I fear that it is an infection. My friend has a cycle of Penicillin, HOWEVER: They are 500mg/tab and the bottle says there should be 40count, there are only 31. Also, the bottle is dated from 2008. Is this still good?

It seems that the lowest effective dose is 250mg 4x daily. Can anybody back this up?

Ok I found here, http://en.allexperts.com/q/Pharmacy-...peniciilin.htm that the shelf life isn't a huge problem. But if I'm going to cut the tabs in half, should I still take 1/2tab (250mg) four times per day?

Also, I still plan on working out through this whole experience, any input on that?

But give it a few days before you start popping the penicillin unless it gets worse

Thanks =) Its good that I don't have to worry about the exp. date now.

Unfortunately I just popped my very first one a few minutes ago, so I'd better just do the low dose 250mg 3x/day for a week or so.

Its just weird that this pain didn't set in until 3 days after inj. I'd figure it would take an infection 3 days to set in, but if it were only an absess, wouldn't I feel that right away? When I run my hand over the site I can indeed feel a lil lump
