On stage weight - Previous competitors please advise

Hopefully some of the previous ppl that have done shows can help as to what stage weight/normal weight will be.

Long story short I would like to do a competition in the future. I currently sit at 6' 195 12% bf.

I know from reading others posts (Fireguy I know you compete consistantly) that most ppl will go on stage a lot lighter than they even think. My goal would be to get up to around 220 at 10% for everyday but am wondering what weight that could be on stage. My trainer said we should shoot for 198lbs on stage. Is that feasible or am I way off?

Thanks for all of your help in advance.

I would like to hear answers as well. I would guess you would go on even a few lbs lighter tho. Based on your predicted stats, you would have 198lbs of LBM. That with 6% bf would be around 210 lbs, it would come down to how much water and muscle you end up burning off, and how low you take you BF. This is all IMO, and an educated guess.

220lbs @ 10% is very close to my off season stats as well. That puts me on stage in the 187-190 range.

If i would have put a number to it, i would have said 194, which is still to high. This definitely makes me not want to guess at my stage weight! haha.

    Thanks for the replies.

Fireguy - Appreciate the input as well. I have read your posts in regards to stage weight before, but never knew what ppl start their bf% when they start their cut for the shows. You being at 10% and ending up 187-190 tells my exactly what is needed.

To be 198 on stage looks sounds like a person would be walking around closer to the 230s than 220s and might also maintain a lower bf% year round.

    Thanks again.

I'm a little confused, if you are 220lbs @ 10% bf then you will be 198 lbs with 0% bf (which of course it's not possible to achieve) and an additional 8 lbs until 190 lbs which is water? I'm trying to get ready for my first show myself and just trying to find a scientific way to calculate things ...

Because you begin to burn muscle as well when you get to the lower bf%, its not a matter of if, but how much. And water calculates as LBM loss too.

Edit, Im not sure how I would go about guessing your first contest weight. Lighter than you would think obviously.

Unfortuately you really cant go by the numbers. I will usually look pretty shredded a few days out from the show but will still be hovering right around 200lbs but after water and carb manipulation I usually drop a good 10-12 lbs the last 36 hours. I know guys who have gone from 245 to 225 in the last 2 days simply from drying out.

I went from 206 to 192 (weigh in) in just water manipulation. Plan on loosing 10-15 lbs of water (if you know what your doing) and you need to get down to about 5% bf to be real competitive. I think your going to end up a tall middle weight (<187). Doing novice right?

187 is a middle weight? What organization is this? Also, I lose 5-7 lbs of water usaually. I've been told I hold a little less than most.

Huh? I see. My first show I entered the novice division and there was just lightweight and heavyweight. I guess it depends on how large the show is.

I just did my first novice NPC show, they had three classes: light, middle, and heavy. >187 is a heavy weight. Not sure about light, but he doesn't need to worry about that.
