I have a day job and on weekends I spend almost every saturday playing poker. For the past 2 months the smallest amount I have made is $300 and the most $1000 with my average being $500. These are one day of "work" playing numbers so to me they are kind of impressive. One thing going for me is the low pressure.. I know I have a job, and I am playing on Saturday when all the money comes to the table. The out of towners, the tourists, the wealthy, etc show up to just have a good time. Meanwhile I'm all business.
Obviously I need to play a lot more to see what is going on. I have always been one of the most talented players in any home group I played in, and have shown a lot of consistency in my play and winning for a long time. One thing that has traditionally held me back is my drinking. I have a serious drinking problem that I am only able to keep in check by going to meetings. It sucks but its better for me to face up to it than to pretend the elephant isn't in the room. Anyway I want to know if its feasible and if I could be that .03% of people that are good enough to do it for a living. Do you guys know anybody making bank off playing poker? I kicked the idea to my cabbie yesterday and being a cabbie and knowing everyone and his mother he threw out some story about a high roller he knows making 300k a year playing high stakes poker in vegas. I don't think I will make 300k playing 5-10 No Limit but I am doing pretty good right now.
