    Knee reconstruction

Hey guys, so my misses has had a knee reconstruction a few years back, she is only 25.. But she loves the gym and wants to put some serious size on her legs (not my choice!!) she wants to compete in a few years, anyway has anybody have any experiences or tips about exercises she can do? Most exercises hurt her, leg press, squats, extensions!! It goes past my scope of knowledge

she should stick with closed chain activites (google it). This would be things with her feet fixed on the ground. Squats, leg press ... avoid open chain (leg extensions, leg curls). They put huge sheer forces on the knee joint. A most overlooked issue with knee pain is hip strength. Good chance she has weak hip extenal rotators. Form is crucial. Also alignment. If she has flat feet Orthotics should be considered and may considerably help her patellar tracking (but she should be assessed by a PT or other practioneer to identify potential issues). Glycosomine has good literature support behind it for knee's.

I had knee surgery. I was a catcher my entire life and tore my meniscus in half. They had to insert a gel in place of it.

I will tell you this, it will never be the same. Knee surgery sucks. It will constantly ache and she will always know when the weather is changing hahaha

Honestly though, I was never the same with lifting legs. I can still go very heavy, but it starts to hurt if I continue for a while. The next day is brutal after doing legs. The best advice I could give her is to go easy and slow and to wear a knee brace when lifting. It helps me a lot! Hopefully she recovers well.

Oh sh!t!! Yeah she fell of a bridge and landed on pipes!! Whole knee shattered!! We did legs together yesterday, she coped fairly well, just that pain will always be there, can't go too heavy, but she can't go too many reps either! Thought there may be some techniques out there to take the knees out of it!

Yeah man. It will always bother her. Like I said though, just tell her to take it easy. The last thing she should do is rush into it and just hurt herself again. A knee is not something that goes unused. It is used everyday all day.

The sad part is, I was told by the doctor that I will most likely for sure get arthritis in that knee when I am much older. Kinda sucks, but it is what it is man
