How to SCIENTIFICALLY measure "calories burned" with different exercise

I'm looking to measure the amount of calories burned... comparing different exercises.

    Stationary Bike vs. Battling Ropes

    I need EXACT numbers.

How would 1 go about doing this?

I don't want some "calorie calculator" ... I'm looking to hire someone (or buy a device)
that will actually be able to measure this.

From the research I have done "indirect calmorimetry" seems to be the Gold Standard.

My question for you guys is: Where does one get in contact with someone or some lab
    that does this? Any ideas?

I know this will be expensive... and thats fine.

    Thank you guys

WOW! Great stats! I may be able to use this.

The only issue I can see is this is done 40 years ago... and I'm actually looking at doing a study
comparing NEW equipment that has come on the marketplace (or new exercise movements)

    Sledgehammer & Tire

    Sled Dragging

    Prowler

    Balling Ropes

    etc.

Really do appreiciate you showing me this article though... may be what
I need to track down a way to do this.

    Thanks!

Sorry but what does the point value translate into?

For example 60mins on threadmill at 6mph has point value of 29.0, so what does this translate into in terms of cals burned? I'm thinking that you cant work it out because everybodys HR will be different?

So are the point values just showing the effectiveness of burning cals in the exercise? or am I way off

Yeah thanks Gixxer I should of stopped being lazy and googled it myself in the first place

Here's what I found the meaning or purpose of the points are, for anybody else interested but like me too lazy to google it

Points are accumulated on a weekly basis, and research at The Cooper Institute has shown that the number of points we accumulate each week correlates with our level of fitness. The fitness categories are:

For health and longevity, 15 points a week. With just 15 points a week, research shows a 58 percent reduction in death from all causes, and an increase in longevity of six years.
For aerobic conditioning, 35 points a week. In this category, research shows a 65 percent reduction from death of all causes, and an increase in longevity of nine years.
For superior conditioning, 75 or more points a week is required.
